Hello everyone hope you all are doing well and hopefully I can get some assistance. The PS3 only plays MP4 videos right? I finally upgraded my hard drive on my PS3 (500gb awesome!) Now I see all that space and want to put some stuff into it. Sure I have some movies from the PSN store but I also have other Avi, Mpeg, VOD, files on my PC. Can I convert those to MP4 and use my External hard drive enclosure to transfer the files to my PS3? I have tried looking up for some programs but the problem I have is I run Windows 98 and a lot of the programs when trying to install say "can not run on current operating system" Do you all recommend something that I could use that would be compatible. Thanks for all your help. I will keep looking and checking back here periodically. Thanks in advance.

acctually mpeg and most of the avis doesnt need to be encoded to mp4 ps3 plays them fine.
Make a google search about the video formats that ps3 supports.

there is actually a wide variety that the ps3 will play

Ps3 will accept these MPEG-4 SP (AAC LC)
- H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile (AAC LC)
MPEG-1 (MPEG Audio Layer 2)
MPEG-2 PS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2, AAC LC, AC3(Dolby Digital), LPCM)
MPEG-2 TS (MPEG2 Audio Layer 2)
AVI
MP4
- Motion JPEG (Linear PCM)
- Motion JPEG (μ-Law)
AVCHD (.m2ts)

as for video converting, i would recommend AVS video converter, it has a wide number formats you can convert to. (make sure to get the full version for free. the trial version runs a water mark down the center of your video) if it dosent run on win98, witch i think it does. but if not i suggest you get on board with xp. you can also download that for free.

Or if your anyway familiar with video encoding, try MeGui with X264.
Completely free and always updated.

It might be what profile you're using.

That or the fact that MeGUI isn't a very good audio encoder. It's alright, but programs like eac3to (with a good GUI) do a much better job with audio. MeGUI is best used for video encoding.

You dont have to encode the audio, rip from your dvd to video-ts folder, use dgindex to split the streams (auto converts DD or DTS to 5.1 AC3) encode your video stream with MeGui (standalone profile) then mux the two streams with TsMuxer into a m2ts file, your done.

Hey guys I just installed PS3 Video 9 haven't had a chance to use it but I have another question. I have an External Enclosure for a SATA 2.5. I got it for my old PS3. I run Windows 98 and it won't recognize it and I don't know where to get the driver for it. Its a 2.5 External SATA HDD 2.0 kit buy Nippon Labs. Any ideas where I can install a a driver for it? I tried www.driverguide.com but couldn't fine anything. Thanks for your help.

im ripping it from a dvd. and i figured out last night it was just the specific AC3 format that i was using that wasn't getting picked up on the ps3. cause i used a different codec and got AC3 to work fine.
