So my beloved xbox360 from 2006-06-23 (Hitachi drive with no HDMI) has the RROD.
I thought perhaps I'll take up this opportunity and use the RROD warranty.
What do you guys think I'll get back?

probably a new system. usually they just refurbish yours and send it in, but if its non hdmi they will probably give you a completely different console.

yep, youll get a 'brand new' non-hdmi console as this is what ive received with the previous two that ive sent in (both within the last 2 months) one came back with a lite-on, and the most recent one had a benq in it.

Tomorrow I should receive an Elite I had sent off to Microsoft. I couldn't fix the error code so I decided to let Microsoft do it for me. I had a June 07 Elite with a Hitachi 79. I'm not for sure what I will get back, new or refurb. I'm hoping to get either a BenQ or a Lite-on back, who knows, maybe MS was so kind so give me a Jasper board. Only prob that I would run into would be power supply if its a jasper. I will post back with my results tomorrow.

I think you should be fine with the PSU for the jasper.
It would be like running a 600watt PSU in a computer that only needs 300 watts. No harm to your computer, just extra headroom if you ever to add anything. But in the xbox360 case you won't be.

Anyhow, so no chance that I'll get a HDMI version?
I'll be getting ready to fill out the RMA or w/e soon. Does Microsoft expect me to ship it back to them at my own cost or will they be sending me a box for it to be ship back in?

i highly doubt you'll get an HDMI version back. and as for your question about shipping it back, you can either have them mail you a box with a prepaid shipping label inside of it to mail back to them, or you can have them email/post on your xbox.com page a printable shipping label and then just put it in a box and drop if off at a UPS shipping store (what i do, saves about 5 days waiting on them to ship the box to you).

My friend sent in a 2006 model with samsung and got back a 2008 with Benq, looked new as the case was not scratched at all.
also if u send in a older unit and u get back a newer one say with the jasper board the PSU wont matter, ms knows what type of unit u sent and knows what type psu u must have so they wont send u incompatible hardware. and the systems were designed in a way that u can use the older psu bricks on the newer systems cause the PDB(power distribution board) can step down the power comming in and only use what the system needs from it, however it cannot step up power and that is why a new psu will not work on an older unit. besides the plugs are made in such away that you cannot insert them into a unit that they are not compatible for. maybe you could modify the plg to accept it but that would be dumb cause it would most likely damage ur system by overloading the power.

Just got the console back today. No japser though. Checked the back and it is 16.5 amp. Shined flash light on the side and I can see the old style heatsink. The xbox has a Lite-ON drive. MFR date says 6-14-07.

Hey man I am need of some xbox live did they give you any codes with the system that I could possibly have. Thanks Decode. I have a flashback map pack code for Gears two that I haven't used I could trade you that.

I just got a repaired console back. Original manufacture date was 6/2006. They sent back a Zephyr board 6/2006 with a 10/2008 Lite-on drive. The external case looked new, not a scratch on it. Inside there were some signs of use, dust inside the fan shroud, slight warping of the board perpendicular to the CPU area. ---Chikn
Edit: Received the console back 3 days ago. RMA process took about 2 weeks total.

I sent it off on Wednesday January 28th and received it on Friday February 6th. I live in Kansas and the repair center is around Dallas Texas.

i just sent an 06 model to ms that had rrod took about three weeks total they sent same console back didnt open to see what was inside was non hdmi
