Hi there,

I have researched this forum extensively on this topic, but there hasn't been much discussion since 2007, so i would like to bring this back and have people relay some fresh ideas so I can get this thing working once and for all!

Here's my situation. I have a new Macbook Pro running Mac OS leopard 10.5.6.

I downloaded the Mario kart ISO file.
I burned it onto a Memorex DVD+R DL (tried Disk Utility, Liquid CD, and Burn)
I put the DVD into the Wii console and I can get to the start menu for the mario kart game.

Then, I get a message that says "An error has occurred. Press eject button and remove the disc, then turn the Wii Console off and refer to the wii operations manual for help troubleshooting"

The wii console is brand new and I have Wiikey v2 installed. Other games that I have purchased work perfectly fine.

Please help!

Thanks.

Why are you using a DL disk? You need to use single layer disks for all wii games except smash bros.

Is it the same region as your wii? Do you have region override turned on on your modchip? Have you tried booting through gecko OS on the homebrew channel?

The region is the same and the region override is turned on. I don't have homebrew or gecko os.

Well, if its not a region issue, you're using the right disks, and other games you burned in the same way worked fine then its probably a bad rip or a bad download.

My mistake, what I meant was that the only games that DO work on my Wii are the ones I purchased retail. All the games I downloaded and burned don't work.

Well, if I read TCs post correctly, TC has never successfully burned an .iso.

"Other games that I have purchased work perfectly fine."

TC, please clarify. Have you ever successfully burned a working Wii .iso?

Oh! Ok thats different then. So we dont know if its a problem with burning or with the chip.

Easiest way to test it is to get a backup disk that you know works from someone and test that. If it still dosent work then the chip is likely installed wrong.

Who is TC?

I have never gotten a game that I downloaded and burned to work on my Wii.

maybe try using Toast? and some different media..

i use Ridisc and Datasafe media and have never encountered a problem, also try burning at a slow speed and NOT using your machine at the same time.

hope that helps, let us know how you get on

TC = Topic Creator.

Thank you for clarifying. We can now go on the premise that you have never successfully burned a Wii .iso and can also include the possibility that you downloaded a bad .iso as well as any number of reasons why you can't burn correctly.

Since your clarification includes the fact that you have downloaded more than one .iso we can almost preclude a bad .iso as the problem (unless you are horribly unlucky).

Are all of the .isos that you downloaded the same size and the correct size?

Yes, it is true that I have never successfully burned a downloaded wii iso.

That being said, I have tried to download and burn multiple iso's and they are all the same size and correct size size.

I think that penguin might have had it right when he said it could be the mod chip - I hope that is not the case.

OK, I didn't quite know how to go here, but here it is:

"Other games that I have purchased work perfectly fine. "

Translated:

Original games run fine but backups do not.

Yes or no? Only reason that I ask is that some people "sell" backups.

I think we are close to 100% defining the problem. One way to further refine this is if you can find a working back created by someone else, see if it boots into your Wii. That will verify whether or not the Wiikey is working.

I can 100% tell you that wii games burned via Mac using the program Burn at 4x on Verbatim DVD-R Discs works perfect. As a matter of a fact, I've never had a single coaster. I run a Pioneer burner, always make sure the wii iso file is proper size and have never had a single problem. So the problem is definitely not the burning program. I have found issues ripping a back-up and burning that. For some reason I can't get a mac program to rip it properly, so I just emulate Windows with Parallels and make an image of the back-up with imgburn. Also burning while doing other things on your computer is not the issue either. I've burned Wii games while re-encoding a Blu-ray movie, downloading files, surfing the web, and unraring things, all at the same time. The problem has to be your source for the isos, or your modchip. That is assuming everything you said is correct.

my wiikey 2 is still not working but i have been too busy until now to really look into this issue again.

I have decided instead of disassembling my wii all over again, i should consider trying to either purchase a burned disc off of someone who successfully burns wii games and has a wiikey 2 installed, that way I can completely rule out the way I am burning games as being the source of my problems.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a burned disc off of someone for a few bucks in order to try it on my wii?

Please advise.

Thanks again.
