I'm just posting this, because people take awhile to reply on this site. But I think your best bet would be to upgrade to a newer firmware. Unless your son is dead set on using 1.50 (there are only a few reasons to use it, most people prefer newer CFW) there's no good reason not to upgrade to 5.00m33 (Or one of the previous ones, 3.90m33 was able to play Dissidia, a fairly new game). By doing this you bypass the need to use Devhook, you can just throw the PSP game into the ISO folder and play from there, really simple. If you already have CFW updating to a more recent one shouldn't be an issue.
Like I said, I'm not the most knowledgeable person. I've only been using my PSP lately for SNES emulation (Super Metroid on the go, yes please) and the occasional PSP games. So if there's any doubt in your mind about updating your firmware there might be someone who's able to tell you how to use devhook to play newer games, I however have no experience using said program. I prefer the easiest method, which is using a more recent CFW.
