I'm not sure about that... I believe the DVD region protection still applies to the PS3 in the same way that PS2/1 region protection does.

Huh... that's cool, then. Are you on an HDTV? Maybe it only applies to PS3s playing on SDTVs... I should test this out.

hi,thanks. I already know any pal vesrsion can play ntsc dvds but ntsc vesrion cant play pal.

I've got a question, then: Can PAL PS3s play NTSC DVDs only when they're being played on HDTVs? Or can it play NTSC DVDs on a standard PAL SDTV, as well?

What?
Maybe I'm reading everything wrong but are you saying that NTSC DVDs are working on a PAL PS3?
I thought that a DVD/Blu-Ray disc with a different region from the PS3 can't be played.
I tried putting in a NTSC (from HK) DVD on my PAL PS3 and it doesn't read.
I thought that only the PS3 games are region-free.
Or I am I just wrong? :|

I think you are right. To whoever was saying that they worked are you talking about a NTSC backup? They will work but store bought DVDs still have region protection.

no its not a backup, its a store bought dvd,its region 1 (i think) and its being played on a HDTV, PAL PS3.

There is such thing as region free NTSC
