For the love of Jesus! All I hear about is why would any one buy the CK3 and/or spear when you can make one yourself! I know that some of you have made this on your own. I have been searching for hours and it's late. Either I am missing this or there isn't a guide dumbed-down enough for me. I am looking for a good, detailed guide with pictures -damn it- of how to make a connectivity kit for flashing the Lite-on and where to connect the wires. Is that too much to ask for? Oh, I know there are some that will say "if you don't know how to make it/connect it you shouldn't bother trying". Well I would like to do this for the challenge of it. I can make the RS-232 adapter with 3.3v, grd, and Txd/Rxd wires. My question is where the hell do they go without having to solder them to the lite-on!? I saw one tutorial, can't remember where, that had a description of this but was not specific with the connections. Then Where does the spear attach, only to the DVD power connector? I just want to build this damn thing to see if I can do it, any help would be appreciated.

you're talking about a very technical thing which i don't believe can be "dumbed down" ... i have many years of experience with building computers but when i see an electrical circuit diagram i'm clueless...
the dumbed down version is buying it premade from a store on the internet...

Sorry, by "dumbed-down" I didn't mean to imply simple, as this is not a simple task. Rather I was hoping for a guide on how to build one that shows or explains all of the steps and connections. I can solder and follow technical/wiring guides pretty well. I just don't know what goes where at this point and would like to give it a shot on my own, for good or ill. ---Chikn
EDIT: BTW, Thanks for the search suggestion. I saw that guide. Pretty good, excellent really. Not quite sure about a couple of the steps in there. Once I have the R232 tll converter made and attach the wires I am a bit lost.
If you cannot understand that simple circuit I would say you cannot understand schematics.
Its all self explanitory, your (+3.3v for max3232) or (+5v for max232)to the lite0n drive. Ground to the lite0n drive, tx & rx to the lite0n drive.
tx, rx, gnd to your DB-9 port.

I completely understand that part, I can make the TLL module and attach it to the lite-on. I don't know what to do from there. Is there another way to attach the grd, tx and rx to the liteon without soldering? Also, I don't get that the gentleman in the photos has the DVD drive powered by the SATA power cable from the computer. Is that necessary? or can you just keep the original DVD power cable installed?
I know SATA is a communications bus but there is also a 15 pin SATA power connector, i.e., different than a 4 pin molex connector. In the pics on the link above the SATA power connector is stripped down and connected to the 360 DVD drive. ---Chikn.
He just substituted a sata power connector for the molex, both deliver a +5v source,
Its alot easier to use a molex with kynar wire, just shove her right in.
If you dont have any spare molex connectors go pickup a molex-->sata
You can also rob 5v from the dvd drive power connector on the 360 cable.
