I can get to the title screen but when I press new game it gos to a screen with these yellow dudes and a white bg. what do I do?

what firmware is it??? on psp menu be sure to press select and set to m33 driver...i've also heard that putting in a umd(any) will play a game. hope that helps.. also try downloading another file and see if that works
