LMAO its a metal that u melt with a soldering iron and it is a skilled task too lol not easy to do and takes much practice and u could either injure yourself(melted metals= HOT) or completely ruin whatever you are working on. so like the other guy said...Dont do it

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Soldering really isn't that hard but it does take some practice. I don't think you'd want to start out on a $300 device but thats up to you. You never know until you try.

Im sorry if my post was condesending, soldering is not very hard at all. As mentioned it takes some practice. But if you think solder and glue relate to each other in anyway do not try this on your lite-on. You will just end up lifting the pads, making a mess, or completely ruin your drive.

Either practice until your comfortable or have someone who is skilled in soldering do it for you.

I've seen many dumbass's try to do a project on their first time around soldering, and it never ends as a happy story.

If you really want to learn try this it is a kit with all tools needed for beginners. I am learning how now also and i went to radio shack and bought all kinds of stuff just last week.
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062759

try to find some PCB like hese but square instead so u get more for your money with the square ones. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3173937

or just get some old modems or network cards or just any old electronics and practice desoldering and soldering and cleaning and all that. I have tons of old token ring cards and 56k modems to playt with.

sorry boss! i just figured that there was three reasons to solder in a xbox,
1. to install a modchip
2. to flash a lite-on drive
3. fix a red ring crash
so i had 33.333% chance of being correct.
and you didnt start the thread so i might be correct.
but i tell you what boss, the next time i reply to a thread ill msg you and make sure im on topic.

Whoa whoa there...

DO NOT! I repeat... DO NOT BUY radioshack brandname soldering pens. The quality is just extremely poor. They are known to have poor grounding and can end up shocking whatever your working on.

Just head over to your local Lowes or Home Depot and buy a Weller solder pen (cost $11 but worth the quality).

Radioshack solder, flux, and etc are fine to use. Just avoid their solder pens.

Also if you have an old VCR or such you can practice on that. Look up youtube about soldering.

yessum masta.
will do, masta stealthdf.
on a serious note, whatever reason you have to solder in your xbox dont do. it takes a very long time to aquire enough skill to solder on such fine and small circuits. if need be hire a tv repairman or maybe find a ameture radio operator to lend you a hand.

oh and the rest of u guys please calm down ok this is the internet dont take it so seriously.
IM SORRY fud if i offended u. maybe i came off as a dick with the first post saying maybe it was the wrong thread you had posted in seriously MY BAD. but your reply was far to harsh i thought so i responded the same. either way ill take the blame.

The Radio Shack iron works good enough for those who are looking do some quick projects. All you want is a 15 watt iron. The only problem with the RS iron has SLOW heat up and recover.

If someone is looking to just flash a LO or do a led case mod, a cheap off-the-shelf- iron will be fine.
