after i use friidump for any of my Wii games the file size for the iso is just under 8GB

Some versions of friidump are designed to work with smash bros and will dump a dual layer image even from a single layer disk.

As dailun said, try rawdump.

I tried using rawdump with my GDR-H30N but I always get the faulty drive error
