Hi, i've heard yet again that all Xbox 360's manufactured from Feb 2009 will have a new motherboard and chip etc, and that this has finally fixed the dreaded ring of death.
Can anyone comfirm this, if this is true do you think they will fix the dvd lens scratching issue as well, i was going to buy another 360 but don't know weather to wait, and if i do how long before the new batches arrive in the UK, there's still millions of old units still stocked by retailers.
Chances are your answer is no. The new Jasper chip is just another, smaller core, meaning it's better for power consumption and maybe better for overheating. The board design isn't 100% new, so the majority of RROD problems could still exist since it's the board/BGA solder design that is at the heart of the issues.
The thing with these issues, and whether or not MS will fix everything and have an error free console is that they've been working under the same conditions since launch and they're obviously still making tons of money this way, even with repairs at their cost. Why would they bother to change everything unless this business model stopped printing their money?

Missing me online gaming, thanks.
They are still using x-clamps, lead-free solder, and putting some type of hard silicon around the gpu/cpu chips, so yes, there is a chance of RROD in the future. But there are things you can do to your system, to help cope with Microsofts flaws. Replace the x-clamps with a RROD kit, apply new Artic silver 5 thermal paste, a performance fan like the talismoon, keeping your console running on its side... etc etc
Thanks for the reply, yea i was thinking the same thing, but thought some sort of legal threat by now might have made them fix this thing once and for all. Just great online play and games, but paying MS again for a new console, i feel like mug if it's just another empty promise or marketing ploy.
Seems they have turned the PROD problem to there advantage, thanks again for your comments.
Update: sorry you posted as i was responding to the first reply, i can live with it as long as the situation has improved, plus the three year warranty, is it just worth the wait for a so called new jasper.
I know people who use the PROD fixes, this isn't a permenant fix as most people believe, it will PROD again at some point, that's what a read on here some where anyway, again thanks for replying.
