Ok, I have a Samsung ms28 360 Drive and I have looked at many tutorials, but none of them have really helped my problem. People tell me I need a VIA CHIPSET, and some say I just need DOSFLASH. Now I did the whole XBINS/XBOOTER, but when I try to make my Western Digital External HD bootable, the option to make format and make bootable never lights up.

Here are my specs for my laptop-
Name Intel(R) 82801DBM Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 24CA

Name Primary IDE Channel
Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)

Name Secondary IDE Channel
Manufacturer (Standard IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers)
Status OK

I/O Port 0x00000170-0x00000177
I/O Port 0x00000376-0x00000376
IRQ Channel IRQ 15

For my pc, things are about the same. I still have IDE ATA Storage controllers. Would these work in flashing my 360 because on my PC when I open my motherboard I have like 6 SATA ports.

I've watched plenty of yotube videos but everything is outdated and when I look at guides, they don't explain everything in full detail.

For instance, My PC would not boot from my WD External HD, but Im assuming its becuase I wasnt able to format it and make it bootable.

So where do I go from here? I have no problem going to get the VIA Chipset if needed, but when I see threads a saying I only need DOSFLASH I get kinda confused.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked thousands of times, but I have not been able to find an up to date answer for any of this.

you need via, i am sure someone around here has a link, i dont atm. you need to boot from a flash drive. i am not sure why you are trying to boot from an external HD. the whole thing would have to be formatted for it to even work. i am assuming you are tying to use iprep. you really need a guide, if no one posts one i can get you one tomorow.

I was trying to use IPREP but I assumed XBOOTER would be easier. I have a flash drive too, but I figured the External HD would do me more justice.

Well at least some of my problems are solved.

this is the guide i used when i was a noob. read about 4 times BEFORE you start. http://rapidshare.com/files/115225386/Textbook.2008.pdf.html

EDIT:
This is supposed to be for flashing in windows. I have not tried this yet so I cannont confirm. I prefer to stick with what works.
I also have Samsung MS28 that I just flashed via JungleFlasher.

Worked perfectly. No DOS required.

This is how my flash went.

PC Details:

OS: Vista Home w/SP1 (32bit)
CPU: AMD Opteron 170
MB: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
Chip Set: Nforce 4

1. Open the X360.

2. Connect the (X360 SATA DVD drive) to MB SATA Port 4.

3. Open JungleFlasher and switch to the MTKFlash32 tab.

4. Power on the X360. (To feed power to the DVD Drive)(Find the port that the X360 DVD drive is connected to in the drop down menu)

5. Click the (Sammy-Un-Lock) button.

6. Click (Device ID)

7. Click (Read)

8. Save your original FW as (Sam-OFW.bin)

9. You must put your (Sam-OFW.bin) and (ix15-sam.bin) in the JungleFlasher root directory.

10. Switch over to the Firmware Tool 32 tab.

11. JungleFlasher should automatically load your Original FW into the Firmware Tool 32 tab. If not click (Load FW Image) and locate your Source FW (Sam-OFW.bin) and it will load in your key.

12. Then click (Open Target FW) select (ix15-sam.bin)

13. Now you have 2 choices:

13a. Either switch over to the MTKFlash32 tab and click Write and you're done.

13b. Or you can create a hacked version of (ix15-sam.bin) that has your drive key added to the (.bin) file by clicking (Spoof Source to Target)<in the Firmware Tool 32 tab> and saving your FW named anything your want. Then follow directions from 13a.

If everything goes right you should be able to Read-Spoof-Flash in less than 5 minutes including Verification.

Good Luck!
