Well, heres the problem...

When I go to switch the drive into Mode B using Slax, my computer gets to the main boot screen, where it tells you your HD's and CD drives that are attached to the computer. It sees the Hitachi drive. But it freezes before it gets to the "Boot" menu. My computer is set to boot from the CD, No other drives are connected other than the IDE drive which my system is on. If anyone at all has any pointers as to why this is happening, I'd be much obliged.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Are you using the sata ports on your motherboard or are you using a VIA card? Reason I'm asking is because alot of motherboard chipsets are not supported so the VIA card is a must. Here is a suggestion, it may or may not work?? I remember having a freezing issue where my pc froze on the startup screen when i flashed my 78. Once you are in mode B and get to the part where you have reboot you pc, disconnect the SATA cable so that you can boot your pc past the startup screen! Once your in the windows environment reconnect your SATA cable to your drive and check my computer to see if the drive is detected, this worked for me...

I am using the one on my motherboard, which, from what I've read is compatible.

I can't even get to the slax screen when attempting to get the drive into mode B.

Ok, so basically when you start your pc and 360 at the same time(Slax disk in drive & sata cable attached of course) your computer just freezes right? Can you you at least get to your boot options menu by pressing F8 or the delete key?? Since you chipset is supported you should be able to flash it, I was able to flash my 78fk 2 years ago with a shitty nforce4 A8N SLI Premium before I purchased a VIA card. Try this, wait till after you get to your boot options menu to pop your slax cd in your drive and don't connect your sata cable until you get to the boot options..Once your in your boot options connect the cable load the slax disk in your drive and fire it up.. Let me know if it still hangs???

or you can use jungleflasher and go to the hitachi tab and there is a windows method to put the drive in modeb without having to use slax. thats what i use everytime i do a hitachi.
