Hi,

I bought a Korean Wii flashed with 3.2U. It came with the GeckoOS and the Gamma Loader, each of which is a channel. There is no home channel or similar that I read on the net where you use to launch both the loaders.

Is it possible to update them now? Or do I have to go do the Twilight Hack? If so, do I have to buy the US version or the Korean version?

Some games will hang on me after a while, and my TV has the message "Mode not supported". Games like Wii Play, Wii Fit, etc. I tried Force NTSC and it does help a bit but not all the time.

thanks
Matt

To reinstall the homebrew channel you need to do the twilight hack again. You can use a backup copy though since you have the wiigator channel. And since the backup loader supports out of region games any region of zelda will work, just make sure you use the twilight hack version that matches your game.

Thanks mate, I'll give that a go. Does it mean that once I have installed the homebrew channel, I can replace the GeckoOS channel with a newer version instead having to run the homebrew each time? Sorry if it's an elementary question, I'm new to the homebrew scene.

How do you determine the version of Gecko OS? I have seen v5 on the screen, and IOS249. If I choose the About, it doesn't reveal any version numbers.

Thanks
Matt

You can, but you're going to have to find a wad of the new version and install that with the wad manager on the homebrew channel. Gecko is currently on version 1.07b, but I dont know how to check what version you have currently.

IOS249 though is your custom firmware patch that allows playing backup games, so dont mess with that.

Thanks once again.

I have successfully installed the homebrew channel and then ran GeckoOS 1.07. However, no matter what games I throw at it, it always return the No DVD error.

Do you know what am I missing? If I ran the disc using the GeckoOS channel that came with the machine, it is able to boot the game.

thanks

Ok, you have a wii with 3.2U on it, what region are these games you're playing? If they're originals games from the US, then you dont need gecko at all, just use the disk channel. And if they're backups from any region, then you need to boot them through the wiigator backup loader, not gecko.

You only need gecko for original games from a different region than your wii.

Thanks. Now I get it. I was told by the seller of the console that GeckoOS and Gamma were similar things and that GeckoOS was better, guess he didn't know better.

I launch backup games using my GeckoOS channel. Does it mean that the backup launcher automatically kicks in? Or do you think they have done something special with it?

thanks

Wiigator is basically a modified gecko OS but minus a few features and with the ability to play backup games. Gecko really shouldnt be able to play backups on its own at all.

I'm starting to think that what you were told was a gecko OS channel is actually a very early version of the wiigator backup launcher. It would explain how it can boot backups as well as the compatibility errors you're getting, because wiigator gamma version is compatible with almost every game.
