Black screen with modded wii(please help) Hotd :ok issue

Hi, i have a modded wii with wiikey and i burnt a few backups recently like deadly creatures and tenchu and they worked fine, but i recently Burnt hotd overkill PAL by icon i think and on the channel menu the game's icon and name loads fine( on the channels) but as soon as i click start game i get a black screen and my wii just freezes, does anyone know why ? i burnt it twice with verbatim on 4x(which worked with other games) and they both had the same issue....

Do you have a PAL wii? House of the dead has been having alot of problems playing on other region consoles.

Oh and also i was just surprised that it does load up in the wii menu channel and it says house of the dead overkill but as soon as i press start it goes black.

Ya, that the same problem alot of people have been having trying to run that game on a different region wii. The simplest fix is to just get a copy from the proper region.

Yeah ? Well i've heard that the NTSC version freezes on the carny level or sumthin , does that only happen with softmods ?

4x? stop burning games at 4x which causes major problems. Burn the game at 2x and it will work 95 percent of the time. Burn the game at 1x and it will work 100 percent of the time. Also since the games pal and you are running an ntsc wii i suggest you brick block it as well as region change it with regionfrii.

Uh, no... No on pretty much all counts. 4x is the recommended speed by nearly everyone on this forum. Burning at 1x results in more errors, I've seen it happen many times.
And regionfrii wont help, since theres a problem with the house of the dead game. He needs to get the right version.
I cant speak on the NTSC version crashing on a specific level, since I havent heard anything about that. But I do know that the the PAL version of this game simply wont run on an NTSC console, even with all the usual tricks.

Thanks guys, I just didnt think hat the pal would be a problem since i played pal wii hames in the past and the fact that the game loaded in the channel menu surprised be but i guess i'll get the NTSC/US version =)

I tried to play HotD: Overkill with both a PAL and an NTSC disc, and neither of them worked. I tried using both softchip and gator 0.3gamma. I used brickblocker (but not regionfree). I am able to play EVERY other game I have tried, including Force Unleashed. But I either get a green screen and my remote turns off (with the PAL version) or I get a black screen and it eventually reboots my wii (with the NTSC version)... Is there an IOS I need to be able to play this?
I'm using 249 in Gator, and 37 loaded in 36v7 on IOS 232 with Softchip loader. I haven't had any problems with loading games until this one...

Yeah when i try to play the PAL disc on my NTSC US wii i get a blak screen and the remote shut's off but my wii is modded with wiikey and not soft modded like you, im going to try the NTSC US version and see what happens.

Game is said to only work reliably with 3.2x firmware. Thats what i have and I used wii gator with NTSC version of iso and it works flawlessly. Great game as well. Worth the extra effort

Not that this was the basis of the thread but I can also vouch that burning Wii games at 4x is fine. I burn all of my games at 4x, and out of 80 or so burns, not a single coaster. These same discs burned at 4x have also been tested on other Wiis with no glitches and work perfect. So the myth about burning at 1x or 2x is complete nonsense. Good burner, good discs, burn at 4x with no worries

problem with that thought is not everyone has a good burner / good media. People burn with all different types of burners and media so you saying its okay to burn at 4x etc is good for you but nonsense to others. To be safe buy verbatims that allow slow burn speeds at 1 or 2x.

You keep mentioning burning @ 1x. New 16x verbatims do not allow for burning at 1x only 4x minimum with imgburn despite what you choose, 1x, 2x, 4x, etc. Look at the disc info and watch the burn speed during and after the burn. You will see 4x speed. ---Chikn

Burning on bad media with a bad burner at any speed is BAD PERIOD. It is assumed the person has a good burner in working order and is using Verbatim DVD-R, and in that case burning at 4X is just fine. It is not nonsense at all. It is completely fine, no problem at all. As I've said, make sure you have a working burner (you should have anyway if you're trying to burn anything), Verbatim DVD-R and burn at 4x.

I just find it odd that I haven't had any problems with games so far aside from House of the Dead: Overkill's backup. I've used the same method consistantly with a variety of games and everything ran just fine with the gamma loader 0.3. From what I understand, this particular game seems to be giving people a lot of problems. Is there anything else that needs to be done to stabilize the image or added as a cIOS?

My best advice would say to grab the NTSC version and try that. I've read reports of quite a few people having issues trying to run the pal version on their ntsc wiis. I have also found information from people stating the ntsc version of a ntsc wii works just fine. Furthermore the backup loader compatibility list I've read states that the NTSC version of this game works fine with the gamma loader.

ok newbs time to clearify this. IF YOUR WII IS FROM THE USA AND YOU WISH TO PLAY A PAL(EUROPE) GAMES THEN YOU MUST ADJUST THE SETTINGS ON BACKUP LAUNCHER. GO INTO CONFIG AND CHANGE THE OPTION --FORCE TO NTSC TO YES AND THEN LAUNCH THE GAME. SHOULD PLAY FINE I HAVE A MILLION. HAPPY GAMING

This doesn't always work. Yes most of the time it does. But there are a hand full that do not.

A newb calling people newbs? Hey buddy, response to you is DUH. We are already aware of choosing force to ntsc and guess what? It hasn't worked for him on this particular game. When you post in a thread, try to say something useful, and not something that's already posted in the forum many times over. Think you can do that, "Newb"?

Hi guys just getting back on track, I have been blissfully backing up games for a year now, i have wiikey pal wii, i even bought a 100 white dvd cases and have not many left, but in the last month or so I have started to find a few games not working which is why i have ended up at this forum. I have not been able to get madworld motogp and Jillian micheals to work, black screen after pressing start.
One of my issues is people passing off ntsc games as pal simply because they regionfrii it. not nice which may be part of problem
Is there some new issue with games or is incompatiblity between regions getting larger?
Is there some magic bullet to cure this black screen i do not know about?
