I read up through the ultimate sticky on how to mod a wii and i just want to make sure i have it right before i do it. I have an old wii, one of the first ones and i was just going to buy an original wiikey. So this is what i think i have to do.. can you let me know if i have the general idea of it...

1st - get the wii apart/quicksolder wiikey on drive
2nd - run some sort of setup file using gamecube controller
3rd - should be able to play? Or do i have to run some other files?

any help would be greatly appreciated. I am experienced in modding other consoles (xbox, 360, ps2,ps) but i wanted to finally do it with a wii.

I would short wire install it, It didnt line up too well for me doing it directly to the board. You need to get the 1.9s update disc and install it. and also the 1.4 config disc to turn on or off region overide. Good luck!

You don't need a GameCube controller. You can use the reset button to navigate the Wiikey update/setup disc.

All you need to do is install the Wiikey. Then update the Wiikey to the latest firmware. Then use the config disc to set up the Wiikey settings however you like.

You don't even need a Modchip anymore to play backup games. HERE is a guide on how to install a Backup Launcher softmod to play your backup games.

one question though... which would you suggest doing... using the wiikey, or softmodding it? i dont mind paying the $20 for the chip if it makes it easier or is the better thing to do. Any ideas? Thanks a lot!
