So i buy alot of RROD consoles on ebay for cheap. the ones i can't fix i just slap on a new warranty sticker and send it in to MS for repair. It seems lately (the past 3 weeks or so) All the consoles I've sent in (7 in total. 3 falcons the other 4 zephers) have come back with the new heatsinks and also 5 benq drives and 1 hitachi. the last one was a lite-on. has anyone else sent theirs in for repair and not gotten a lite-on back?

I just sent in a Elite that had a Hitachi (MFR 6-2007). I received the same console back but more that likely a different motherboard. But now the console had a Lite-ON drive.

How do you get them into a condition where MS won't know you've cracked them open? I've bought a couple RRODs from ebay too, and they both look like they've been through a frackin war. outsides scratched, chipped, gouged, etc. Inside most had already been taken apart, xclamp fix tried, dvd drives half assembled or at least had the foil shilding tape on the front torn, numbers written in sharpie on the metal bits. Not to mention that you can usually see where someone has popped the latches on the back side. I'd drop some more cash on a couple warranty stickers, but only a moron would open them and not realize someone had been there already.

If the cases are in terrible shape I don't even bother. All the ones i sent in I just make sure all the tabs in the back don't look like they were pried open with a screw driver, and if the x-clamp fix was already applied i put the stock x-clamps back in place (i keep all of the ones I remove for parts) I've never had one returned that wasn't repaired before.
