if i download a backup from blackcats... iso format.... should i just be able to burn and use it with backup launcher?(no modchip.. just softmod). I tried burning super smash bros brawl with verbatim dvd-r at 4x and i used nero express and just opened the iso file. Tried it in my wii and it said ...error - no dvd.... should i do anything else to the iso file? Thanks!

The source of the iso doesn't matter, its just burn and play.

Most likely you just had a bad burn, it happens, and it happens alot with brawl.

Just pick any game. And with Brawl make sure you have set the layer-break and use good brand discs like Verbatim.

Also use ImgBurn instead and burn at 2.4X speed.

i need a double/dual layer disc for that? what about other games... do they use just dvd-r's? the iso i have is only 4.37gb... but i read someone to put it through backupcreator and that makes it much larger.. so would i put that file on the double-layer? Why is the one i got only 4.37? thanks for all the help!

Listen newb its easy. super smash bros is the only game ive come across thats 6 gig plus therefore it cannot go on a regular dvd it must be a dvd dl(dual layer disc) which can hold over 8 gigabytes of data, Pretty much every other game is under 4.7 gig so they can go on jus dvd-r's. Simple as that, dont make it more complicated then it is.

Also if you have a decent dvd burner then sped is pretty much irrelevant. YOu can go as fast as your burner or the disc allow. You hear alot of people talking about 4x or slower to prevent read errors however i have burnt well over a 100 games all working fine with 16x speed with no mishaps at all. Verbatim is a higher quality disc but they all work fine, ive used many different types.

@maestro25
There was a single layer version of brawl going around for awhile before someone figured out how to dump the second layer. The game was playable but the SSE mode didnt work (as well as a few other minor features, I dont remember exactly) Thats probably what duboy has. It can be burned on any standard media so long as you dont care about the missing modes.

Also, your wii has more to do with compatibility of burn speed and media type than your burner. Some wii's, like mine and apparently yours as well, are pretty tolerant of crappy media and how its burned. I have a friend who's wii will only read verbatim -R and memorex +R. I have a stack of burned games on various media and when I loaned them to her only the games on those particular media would work. Now that shes burning her own games shes getting mixed results with different burn speeds but 4x seems to be working the best so far. Her burner is pretty crappy though so I'm sure that isn't helping.

thanks for the reply penguin i didnt know they had a modified version of smash bros. I personally use a plextor dual layer burner and everything has burnt perfect. Im sure like you said theres alot of people who have sub par hardware and cheap burners which would make a difference. Theres so many questions on this forum about disc media and i try to do my best in giving advice. Ill cya around, happy modding
