I'm considering getting another cable box. One with a hard drive for recording. Which unit is the best one that you would recommend and also the best place to get them online? It is to be shipped to Ireland for Chorus use in Naas area.

Also, does anyone know if HD is available in my area and is there any boxes with Hard drives and HD combined on them?

I had a look on cableboxes-ireland.com and they have a
Starview 4 The Box Super USB for £107.48 and a
The Box Super USB PVR - Starview 4 + 160GB Plug & Play HD for £156.74

are they the same unit only the latter has the drive installed?

Yes they are the same unit but one ships with a hard drive.

Also consider the Eurovxo 5000PVR. This takes a 2.5" bare drive in the front (not usb connected)
Although the SV4 is easy to use, from what i've seen the firmware is a bit 'buggy' still and not straight forward for timing recordings.

the eurovox 5000PVR has better firmware.

the SV seems a good option. I can get the standard unit and then buy an external 250GB hard drive on USB. Will the SV work with any USB drive or only specific ones?
