I have been doin research over several tutorials and forum searches and cannot find this answer anywhere.

I've been reading with Lite-on drives to either swap them out with an older drive or flash it.

Well, i've read if you swap out a drive with ANY other model, you have a high risk of being LIVE banned... but i have yet to see a reason as to why i am reading this... is this another false statement?

Also, when choosing to flash a Lite-On drive, i've read that you are suppose to spoof it as another drive so... would that also revert back to... possibly being LIVE banned?

If this is true then... if an xbox came with the lite-on drive, is it impossible to use LIVE?

anyone playing backup games or using a flashed xbox runs the risk of being live banned...

and yes you would run a higher risk using a non-liteon drive spoofed to look like a liteon...

if you have an XBOX with a liteon drive all the hard work (extacting the key, etc) has to be done no matter what... the flashing part is the easiest thing about it .... there is no reason to spoof a liteon ...

Ok, but why is their a higher risk of being banned if drive swapping?

I thought if the drive key were injected into the new drive that it'd be fine is does that only work with exchanging PCB boards with like models?

Also, if one were to spoof a drive, does it fall under the same risky concept of drive swapping?

because there is a higher chance for detection ...

now my question for you... why are you so intent on swapping the liteon drive with one from a different manufacturer?

i mean... you go through all the work of extracting the key ... you have the liteon sitting there... ready to be flashed... but you don't want to use it... it just doesn't make sense.

you are assuming i want to do that.

I am researching everything.

I have already modded samsung and benq drives and fixed rrod problems and have just recently been researching all of this.

I am just gathering information for "IF" i have to do something i havent had to do yet so i know how to do it when the time comes.

I tend to educate myself on everything because i am a very, very busy person and just want to add this to my knowledge.

I am still "lost" on how they can detect drive swapping though...

I need elaborate information. How is it detected?

Different model drives read and report info back to MS differently. Right now, spoofed drives have enough security to stay protected. In the future, if MS finds a way to read the drives firmware, it is assumed that a spoofed drive will stick out like a sore thumb.

Being able to flash a Lite On is still fairly new. It's only been possible for 2 months now. So any research you're doing will result in a lot of pre-flash comments. That's why you're reading about swapping with an older drive.

There are some who still think it's the way to go because they don't know better. Heck... there are still many who are using the old Jungle Flasher or the old Dosflash and have no idea that they're flashing drives with incomplete info.

have you read any forums at all to see how any drives can be detected?

First off, you should just go with the good advice given, but second, you should read up man.

MS can send the drives commands to be executed by the dvd drives. It is much more likely that there will be an error with the command, when MS is sending a liteon command to a samsung drive than if ms sends a liteon command to a liteon drive.

that would be the major reason

Not saying you're wrong but if this is true then why would it be "dodgy" for a user to self swap drives rather than MS doing it at the factory for repairs? The only way there wouldnt be any problem as to what you are referring to is if they swap out mobos for every drive they swap as well... Either that or they would have to flash the rom chip on the mobo itself every time they swap drive models at the factory... which i doubt they would do as well but i have seen companies do some pretty stupid things before.

Yea, i know this Lite-on technique is new, thats why consistent information is impossible to find.

I went over to my friendly mod shop online and noticed that they were doin lite-on flashes for the same price as all other drives but the "weird" thing about the service is it asks if you wish to "Add an additional Lite-on drive" for only $5 yet the service is only $40. Those prices throw me off at how cheap that is but the main thing is, why would they offer a lite-on drive if it's the hardest to flash?

why would they offer a lite-on drive if it's the hardest to flash?

1. When MS swaps drives the drive has it's original firmware. If the user swaps drives, the new drive has to be spoofed, meaning it's running hacked firmware.

2. Depending on who you ask, the LO is just as easy to flash as any other drive. It just takes a couple extra steps. Myself, I feel it's quite easy and I charge the same for flashing any drive.
