intermitant RROD???

Hi I got the RROD for the first time last week, replaced the x conectors with machine bolts and replaced the thermal compound with arctic silver. Everthing worked fine for abut three days then RROD again. I then did the penny fix and removed the wire mesh from behind the fans to improve air flow. it worked fine for a night then the dreaded red lights again. Every time I've had the ring I haven't been able to get the exact error code because I just get a blank screen (tried both HDMI and RGB cables). Today I started from scratch and went through every step of the clamp fix and left the pennies in place. Now when I turn the box on I get RROD maybe 3 times out of five but when the green lights come on theres no problems at all the fans are not going crazy and the games play well. Any suggestions would be aprecieated as I am really stuck for ideas.

to get the error code, you have to press the sync button on the console along with the eject button for the dvd drive, then the ring of lights will flash. there will be a set of four flashes, each flash represents a number, 1 light = 1 2 lights =2 so on and so on, then you use that number for find the error code.

hi sorry for the delayed responce I, had already tried it and only got all four lights blinking continuously. I'm compleatly baffeled, as I said before 50% of the time it works fine. Then I'll get a red ring like this morning red light so I turned it off and on again and it has magically repaired itself!? If the gpu was not properly conected I wouldn't get any picture at all, surely? I can rule out overheating as it redlights from cold boots as well as when its been running for an hour or two. CPU maybe? or the ram chips? I'm not sure but if it where any of these probs why do I get an intermitant red light rather than a constant RROD? I'm confused I've tried everthing in my own limited knowledge anybody have any suggestions at all???

do it again except hold the sync button and hit eject slowly 4 times. the number of lights will change, or should change when you hit the eject button. we need to know how many lights you get each time you hit the eject button.

sorry just looked on the error code sticky the code should be 0020 - not yet know!!!!! what the hell has happened to my xbox???

overheat it and send it to microsoft, if its going to be an issue that you dont think you can fix, go ahead and send it in and let them take care of it.

man my warrenty has gone I've opened the box, I have tried all of the usual tricks penny fix, replacing the thermal compound, replacing the x connectors. I've been building and maintaining pc's for years. This is the first time I have had to mess about with an xbox though. If I knew there was a specific problem I would be able to fix it but non of the regular fixes seem to work. It's terrble that M$ send out finished products like this I wouldn't mind if it was an old machine but its 11 months old. Bah!!!! sorry to vent but its getting a little frustrating and I want to play street fighter 4.

if its only 11 months old, then you shouldnt have messed with it in the first place, you should have just sent it back in the first time it RROD on you.

well I had already opened it to mod it. So any suggestions on what I can do to fix it or is it time to go get a new box?
