Flash firmware of a 360 DVD Drive/hard drive (or both) to play backups?

Hi, can you just answer this probably very quick Q
is it possible to simply just flash the firmware of a 360 DVD Drive \ hard disk (or both) to enable backup copies to be played, or is it definitely more involved that that and some new hardware required?

if its a liteon DVD drive inside the xbox 360 then yes you will need hardware to extract the key and other information from the drive before you flash it.
if its not a liteon you might be able to extract the information without any additional hardware...
flashing the hard drive is not related to playing backup game copies
