Just wondering if i could use someone else gamer tag I.E. my friends to see if my 360 is banned will everything be ok with his tag if my 360 is banned?

I want to take my 360 on live but i don't want to shoe out 50 bucks just to find out it is. i mean even if its banned the next day is better then just flat out being banned. i also understand the risks of getting banned and know that it could happen at any time. but could i use my friends tag to get on live to see if my 360 is banned, and if so will his tag get banned along with my 360 or just my 360 and his tag will be fine as long as he plays it on his 360?

gamertags are not banned on xbox 360, only the console's ID number gets banned.
