Updating Wii firmware after softmod install (Wii Fit)?

Hey folks, sorry if this has been answered already but I took a look through the ultimate sticky and searched and couldn't find an answer.

I recently modded my Wii using the guide here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/735325 . My Wii had 3.1U firmware installed and the process worked perfectly.

My girlfriend really wanted Wii Fit, so we bought it today. When I insert the disk it tells me that it needs to update the firmware and that the process might intentionally mess up my system since it's modded. It doesn't tell me what version of the firmware it wants to upgrade to.

I guess my question is: if the Wii Fit disk updates the system, will that brick it or make the homebrew channel or backup launcher stop working? Is it safe to update from the disk?

I've read other threads that pretty much say that it won't mess up a console with a modchip, but I'm not positive about a softmodded system.

If both console and wii fit disc are from the same region, the update must be safe.
