I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
I started streaming movies through my 360 and downloaded the media update pack. No problem, everything works fine. But when I sign out of my live account, play the content, it asks me to sign in re-download the media update.
From what I gathered searching around, the codecs are tied to whatever account I downloaded them with. Is that true? And if so, is there a way to install the media update outside of my Live account? It just really anoying to connect every time. Normally not a problem, but what if the apocalypse comes, MS is burnt to the ground and I want to watch a movie before the Zombie invasion. ;)
Okay, so after I posted, I messed around with it some more. And it just looks like I needed to signed into my profile. Not necessarily connected to live. I had just assumed "signed in" meant connected. Thanks anyhow, crisis averted.
If this ever happens to where you have to go online, you can avoid it by deleteing the media update then createing another account, just a silver will work after account is created go to play a divx movie it will ask to Download the update click yes, after it is done downloading it will now work offline even without being signed in to any account. You will just have to make sure you don't try to play a movie on another console with your harddrive or M/C.
