Hi there. I was just wondering. Is it possible to replace my Xbox360 Hitachi drive with one other drive of a different brand? I have GDR-3120l drive FW:0078FK and i would like to get a Benq or something else. Is it possible?

Yes, you would have to "spoof" the drive.

Spoofing is the process of using hacked firmware to trick the console in to thinking it has the same model drive as what was originally in it.

Spoofing is only necessary if you are using a different model drive. If you are using the same model, then you would only need to either insert the key in to the new drive, or swap the board between drives.

that makes sense. so i have a samsung drive will any other samsung drive work or do i need samsung m25 or m28 to avoid the spoofing part? because i need to replace my drive but i dont know what drive i have m25 or m28 and only place i know to look is on drive lable which was removed before i bought it. dose it matter and is there anyother way to tell other then that lable?

i have the original key still im pretty sure. not 100% positive where that key comes from but think it comes from when i made back up when i flashed my drive to play back ups some time ago. if so i still have that.

If you have the original key from that drive, just use 360 Firmware Toolbox. Drag and drop your orig.bin on to it and it'll tell you which msxx version it is.

It's not the same process if you are using a different model drive. There's a couple different tut's here for spoofing drives.

I dont care if you care about my spelling and or grammar. I also dont care if you dont care that i dont care that you care about my spelling and or grammar.

There wouldn't be any need to first flash the original key on the new drive.

You can just start in the middle of the process, basically. You would just take your original key and make your hacked firmware, either spoofed or not depending on your new drive, and flash it to the new drive.

If you do end up spoofing a drive you will need the firmware for both models and your key. Instead of reading the new drive just to get it's firmware, you can download it from here.
