1.) Simple answer: You can't.

2.) Simple answer: You can't.

1.) Long answer: You can hardsub the subtitles into the video.

2.) Long answer: The PS3 can't play .mkv files. When you use tsMuxer, what are you remuxing it to?

1 + 2.) You can stream all the content with PS3 Media Server if you so choose.

3.) How's this number system doing for ya?

I am using the media server, see now ur going irrelevant, we're talking about the format of files and they should be like, not about the way i'm streaming them.

1.) There are a few tutorials here that'll lead you through that. You can use VirtualDubMod to do the subbing, but I'm not sure myself how to go about that. The way I DO know is with MeGUI + Avisynth, but that method is much more complicated than necessary for simple .avi files.

2.) Are you putting in a folder that's been allowed to be shared, then?

3.) Irrelevant info? I'd say you just need to be willing to do a bit of reading. Sure, a lot of the stuff won't have to do with your issue in particular, but y'know... it might help you to understand it a bit better. Just sayin'.

The streaming vs. hard drive thing IS relevant because it helps to determine what your problem can be. Y'know. Deductive reasoning.

Are you connected wirelessly? I connect with my PC wirelessly, and I know that there's usually a lag when accessing the media server. Sometimes I won't see the file for a few minutes while the PS3 is still accessing the media server.

And as far as the .avi and .srt thing goes, when you're streaming with PS3MS, your PS3 should see a "Transcode" folder or some such thing, and if the .avi and .srt match names (which they should), the "Transcode" folder will let you watch the file with the subtitles shown. Clicking on the .avi by itself won't allow you to watch the subtitles.

At least that's been MY experience. Hope that helps.

...que?

Uh, hardsubbing usually doesn't take that long unless you're encoding HD content. Granted, it's not the most... efficient of options, but it does what it's supposed to.

But yeah, your PS3MS should automatically see those .srts and transcode them. I'm not sure why it isn't. Have you tried looking in the settings? I haven't used PS3MS much, so I can't tell you where to look or anything. But when I tested it out, the subtitles were displayed automatically when I went to the Transcode folder.

...so I don't know what the issue is. Since you're using PS3MS, you should be finding it easily enough. Again, are you connected wirelessly? Maybe it's just not being picked up the first time through.

To add subs to an avi the esiest way is with aviaddxsubs Home Page but you must press the triangle and enable them.
You can add multiple subs and it takes less than 10 secs believe it or not.
it saved me.
About MKV the best software is gotsent IMO same movie with MKV2VOB was 2times larger in GB's.
But the true solution is THIS and supports NTFS external HDD too
just with 100euros. No more encoding-transconding and all that S****

Use TSMuxer if the .mKV file contains AC3 audio. If it contains DTS audio, the outputted file won't have an audio track that the PS3 will recognize. You can even push the Audio button on your PS3 remote and it'll say "no audio tracks".

Soo... if it' has DTS audio, use MKV2VOB and re-encode the file and make sure in configuration you have the box checked that says "Always transcode DTS" - this will convert DTS audio into AC3. MKV2VOB takes waaaay longer than just TSmuxing it into a .ts/m2ts file, but at least it works.

Well, you could also just demux the audio and re-encode that separately to AC3, then remux it using tsMuxer.

Even THAT takes less time than mkv2vob.
