as the title states. Who's done it? have you noticed any differences? I have an extra jasper unit sitting in the floor and im very tempted to try it. If not on the chips, at least the heatsinks. Just wanted some input before i try it and kill something.
I guess tonight i get to spend some time lapping the heatsinks lol. If i can find some more information on doing it to the CPU/GPU then ill do them too, but for now im going to just do the heatsinks. If it works out alright ill probably do it to my personal unit that I play on all the time.

This really isn't needed with the 360, unless you are overclocking (changing the frequency/multiplier cyrstal)in the 360.
even with 2000 grit sand paper you'll leave little scratches in the finish. I'll even give you an example because i have so many pictures.
These are the original headlights on my 98 eclipse that have been wet sanded 600 grit, 1000 grit, 2000 grit then finished with an abrasive compound.
The abrasive compound i used was mothers aluminum and mag wheel polish. It acts like a really fine sand paper and helps get the major lines out from the sandpaper (even 2000 grit will leave scratches).
With all this done it needs to be finished with a cleaning agent and then a buffing/filler/gloss polish.
For the xbox, you simply can not and will not fill any holes left by the 2000 grit sandpaper. It's a very time consuming process and yeilds little to no real results. You might see a couple degrees F difference.
So instead just add a fan if you want more airflow. There's a really nice tutorial on xbox-scene to use the existing 3pin header port to power extra fans.

I have A(not 50)quesiton. this link for rol http://diy.sickmods.net/Tutorials/Xbox360/ROL_LED_Replacement/ shows them using LED that is much smaller than the stock LED so they had to solder them on their sides in order to reach the correct placement. would it not be much easier to just get the same size led to start with?? i have seen LED that have both colors in them so shouldnt they work also?
Those leds are the 0603 smd leds i use. That's probably the best way to do it unless you can find the correct leds. I really don't want to go into this too far so i'll just flat out tell you. Those leds that ms uses work differently than any other led. It has something to do with the ground being backwards? I really don't know. The easiest thing is to use the 0603's and tilt them on their side.
Just remember to use a desoldering wick or braid to clean up the solder left on the pad. Then when you get the led lined up heat up the pad just a bit then heat up the other one. This technique should make the led stick to the pad so you can solder one side then the other. Remember not to use any force with soldering.

hmm very good info. i understand completely now. But i am going to try to locate the same type led ms uses. i actually work for one of the top 3 electronic part distributors in the world and we have a HUGE(thats really an understatement) warehouse. i work in the systems integration division but it is in the same building. and i just modded my assistant managers 360 and gave him like 5 games so he can help me locate such parts. probbaly wont be till next week tho as we are having an ISO audit starting tomorrow o_0
but it is safe to say that over half or mor eof the electronics we all use on a daily basis were made using parts that came from this very location lol. i have seen a list of our suppliers and customers so i can say we have parts in 360s and ps3 as well as psp for sure.
