First off I'd like to say that I did try searching through this forum and googling with no results.
I'm having problems flashing my Samsung MS28 drive. Here is what I've done. I am using iPrep ver. 008.8 and iXtreme 1.5 - 12x. I am able to boot off my usb and successfully read and write the firmware. My problem is when I tried to play games (retail and burned) I get a "to play disc, put in an xbox 360 console). The drive worked fine prior to my attempt to update the firmware. I have also tried the drive in another console with the same results. I have also tried an older version of firmware (1.4 - 8x) with the same results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

I would try other methods besides iPrep. Jungle Flasher is a good program and I would give dosflash 1.7 a try.

That's the classic sign that your firmware has a bad key.

I'm "pretty sure" the read process went smoothly. I do recall it saying ok to flash.
Another mistake on my part is that I didn't save the "orig.bin"....
Is there any recourse?

well it can say ok to flash but still have a bad key. if it was anything like 0000000 or FFFFFFF 7777777777 then it wasnt good. and if it is a bad key then even if u had orig.bin it would be that bad key that was saved. ....i would read the key again and look to see what it looks like but dont flash again just inspect for the key

The key is a combination of uppercase letters and numbers so I'm guessing that is ok...

Sounds like a good key. Like I said earlier, I would try other ways of flashing besides iPrep. Give dosflash a try, it is fairly simple to do.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Iprep use dosflash as part of the flashing process.

Yes, but I am not for sure what version 008 contains of dosflash. That is why I recommended dosflash 1.7 If you already have your custom firmware made, you will find that dosflash is much easier than iPrep (and iPrep is pretty simple). iPrep can run you through steps that aren't needed if you already have your custom firmware made. Dosflash is very straight forward and doesn't have anything in it, like iPrep does, that can mess you up on steps or when to power cycle your drive blah blah blah.

After doing more research and thinking I realized that I was trying to use a dvd drive from a different xbox. Once I had the right combintation of xbox & dvd all is well!
