banned xbox requires update to play avi files

i have a spare banned xbox that will not play avi s it needs update but i cannot connect it to live is there another way to transfer the update required ....

Just put your HDD on another Xbox 360 and download the update with it. Or do you mean the fall dashboard update? If yes, download it from www.xbox.com , they also explain how to upgrade your console via CD or memory stick.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

the banned console will not play even if i put the hd of my other xbox on it ....they both have the nxe dash on them but i have been led to believe you cannot move the media update around to play avis as it is locked to the console. this seems to be the case.has anyone ever downloaded the media update from any where and got it working

Here I found this awhile back don't know if it works or not seems how i haven't been banned.
Connect the 360 harddrive to the computer using one of the many 360 harddrive adapters out there (Team Xecuter's Connectivity Kit, Talismoon 360 MiniSpy SATA adapter, or XCM 360 SATA adapter)
Open Xplorer360 and select 'Open Harddrive/Memorycard' and put the file in the same hierarchical folder structure as the one included in the archive. Create necessary folders.
Close Xplorer360 and power down the computer, and reconnect the harddrive to the 360. Make sure the dashboard version is 6683 and try to open a DivX/XviD file. It should play nicely if it's supported (AVI container with DivX/XviD video and MP3/AC3 audio) and if the media addon is located in the proper folder.
.Don't know if this helps or not but i found these instructions on a torrent site awhile back with the codec file.If you search around i'm sure you can find the torrent still.

i don't think that will work because when i am not signed into xbox live, divx movies still will not play, i have to log into xbox live and it will play no problems.

i downloaded the update from live and mine works offline and online. i think you have to be signed into that certain profile maybe.

it's a drm issue w/ the consoles and certain dashupdates etc. but since he's wanting to use a banned box, would be to try to hack HDD....unless it's a HDD you swap back and forth.....but either way, the divx update and m4a update both are DRM'd so it will only work on original downloaded console unless connected to live.

If you delete your old update,then create a silver dummy account,then download the update it will play then offline.You just have to remember dont try to play movies with your harddrive on another console cause then it will screw that update up.I play divx movies in mine all the time with no profile signed in,or even a eithernet cable.

my thread seems a little hijacked ..lol..the consoles has the update,used to play avis, got banned ,now asks for update to play them...it asks for this update whatever hd i have on it....is there anything i can do or am i doomed.........

You have to delete the optional media update. Sometimes is bugs out like that and that's just what you have to do. If you create a silver account, delete the optional media update, then try to play an AVI to force the download and it'll work. I just tested this before posting just to make just. Now if you are switch this hard drive back and forth from a Live 360 it may mess up again.

dude his 360 is banned so using a silver account is out of the option, i think u are just out of luck dude. unless u want to go hackin ur hdd to insert the files but even then it is iffy

Obviously he has to put his hard drive on another 360 that's not banned from live to download the update. That was already covered in the 2nd post.

that wont work either cause the download is signed to whatever console downloads it so the moment he switches it from the console it was downloaded on it becomes useless

It does work. I just did it. These updates are not the same thing as DLC that you pay for or get for free because it's being given away for a limited time. The key to this is you have to download the media update with a silver and not a gold account.

i have a working live account which is on an xbox which plays avis ..when i put this hd on the banned console it will not play avis .....is there a way round this yes or no ...do not forget i cannot go live for the media download because its banned ......

as of now no....mainly because u have to download it from xbox live and u can play avi movies without being on live but for now ur banned box wont be able to play divx.
