I bought an AMD 9850 BE Phenom and am looking for an aftermarket cooler I was looking at a Zalman 9500A is this enought to cool this chip? is this a good cooler?

would a Zalman 9700 be better

or a Thermaltake CL-P0466 80mm

If you're not overclocking you don't need aftermarket cooling. Although it wont overclock much more than 2.8ghz anyway.

The Zalam 9700 is the best out of those. Get a Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme if you want the best air cooler.

The Thermalright would be preferable (make sure you get a fan for it). Phenoms put out a ridiculous amount of heat.

No they don't. Mine makes less heat than my old dual-core.

Also, the 9700 is not the best Zalman...they also make the 9900. The 9500A is probably enough to cool it, but the 9700 would be a sure bet...the 9900 is just for overclockers.

Yes they do. If you have a better cooler they won't run as hot, but the actual amount of power they use (and therefore how much heat they're actually producing, regardless of where it ends up) is far higher.
