Hi guys,

I have backup gamma softmnodded pal wii, never had any issues until this morning, tried a new game I d/loaded and got error 349 - tried some games I knew worked previously - all error 349. Tried an orginal in the proper disk channel - got an error message telling me to restart and refer to manual. Ive read all the sticky about 349 but they all seem to think its to do with cios etc - with me not being able to load through the proper disk channel too do you think this is more likely to be something like foreign objects in the physical drive or something (I have a 3-yr-old boy so I cant rule it out!). Thanks for even reading this guys n gals

guess I'm gonna try updating the firmware to undo the mod and formatting the memory so I can send it off to Nintendo under warranty. Dont want to even attempt openeing it to see if theres anything inside because that will void my warranty too!

Formatting the memory will not remove any cIOS you've installed, and neither will updating the console. Also, nintendo will service the console even if you have the homebrew channel installed or even if you have a modchip.

I really doubt theres anything stuck in the drive though, as that would probably result in a generic 'disk cannot be read' error. Also, having seen how complex the disk loading mechanism is I think that something stuck in there would probably completely jam it up.

I think your best bet is to use the cIOS downgrader to remove any cIOS's you've installed and then reinstall the one you need for the backup launcher.

Thnx for reply mate, so do I just do the cios downgrader and that will remove evrything, and then do softmod as if ive never done it before on the machine (ie from the start)? Sorry if I sound dumb. Also - are you saying that if I sent in my Wii with the homebrew on and the backup launcher on and all the saves from my backup games (some may be other region) that Nintendo will still service and return my console with no qualms?

I've never actually had to use the cIOS downgrader before but from what I understand it should display all installed cIOS's and you remove them one at a time.

Once that's complete you can follow the guide here (skipping the parts about installing the homebrew channel because you already have that) to reinstall what you need.

The reason I suggest it is because if you format the system memory and it doesn't help (which it likely wont) then you're stuck, because without a way to load even original disks you cant reinstall the homebrew channel you won't be able to do anything except send it in to nintendo.

And if you do all that and it doesn't work then you're in no worse a situation with having to send it in to nintendo for service.

They might delete the homebrew and backup launcher channels, I've heard different things about that. I've never heard anyone say that they deleted their save games though, even on consoles with a modchip. And the chipped consoles they service as well but de-solder the chip and send it back along with the wii in it's own little anti-static bag.

tried re-install using latest softmii pack from a couple of weeks ago - even downgraded to 3.2, no joy. CAn hear that theres something wrong with drive as there is a faint clicking sound when you listen up close. Still not sure about sending off with all the hacks and homebrew visible?
