Might be the dvd drive giving up, do you know how old it is and if it is Hitachi, sammy, benq??
You can put a different drive in and spoof the firmware.
New drives are about £20-£25 on ebay.

It can be bad media or a dirty or dying laser, or a combo of both. Using cheap discs will kill a laser fairly quick.

I'd suggest first opening the drive and clean the laser eye with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. Then go from there.

Its more of a strain for the drive to read the disks which results in the drive dying early. As you use Verbatim's you should be OK though. Memorex and such are the cheap uns.

Explain "not running" a little better.

Try this and let us know the result. Eject the tray, pop a disc in an close it. Then put your ear right up by the tray and see what you hear.

- Can you hear the disc spinning up?
- Can you hear some "errt errt errt" which is the laser trying to read.
- Can you just hear some clicking sound?

Huh...

Maybe Benq's aren't as durable as their pc counterparts. Benq has always been a trusted name but lately I've been reading more and more about their 360 drives having problems.

I just finished spoofing a Samsung for another member just the other week because his Benq had the same problem. The disc wouldn't spin up.

If the drive isn't spinning up, it could be either a dead laser, the motor, or the board.

If the laser were only dirty, the drive would still at least spin up. Unless it's REALLY dirty. Your first step should be to clean off the lense with a cotton swab or q-tip and rubbing alcohol. That's the quickest, easiest, and cheapest step to take so you might as well give that a shot first.
