Wii flaky on newer backups

I modded my Wii with a d2pro and had no problems with the vast majority of backup games.

However recently strange things have been happening - e.g. with both Guitar Hero Aerosmith and the new House of the Dead, I've managed to get 10 mins into the game before I get a disk read error. Eject disk, restart console, insert disk, and I could play for perhaps 2 minutes before I get an error again. Restart again and now it doesn't recognise the disk at all.

The weird thing is, I can play my older backups just fine. No problems at all.

Have cleaned the laser with the official Wii laser cleaner borrowed from a mate.

Would it be worth opening it up and seeing if the chip is seated properly? This was my first thought, but surely it wouldn't play my older backups if this was a problem?

More then likely a media issue. Try burning it again on different media.
