Hi guys

I've recently bought a pre-modded wii from a store and later bought some games from another store. Two of the games that I bought asked for a system update. I did some research so I updated my wii through wifi to avoid bricking it. Now I am at the most recent 3.4u, in other words my wii region is USA NTSC (also the bottom of the console reads USA). One of the games that asked me for an update is Need for Speed Undercover. The game disk say its NTSC USA, matching the region of my wii console. Why does it still ask me for an update if I already have the most recent one? Does this happens only if the game region doesn't match the console region?

Thanks in advance

the update is a game update, not a firmware update for the actual console. since your wii is modded, most people agree that you shouldnt accept firmware updates. just use a program called brickblocker to remove fw updates from your iso"s.

So long as the game is the same region as your console theres no danger of bricking. No update has ever effected a modchip. The update is probably a minor patch for that specific game and may or may not be required for the game to function properly. You should let it update.

Thanks for the quick reply. I couldn't use brickblocker because I bought my games that are already burned from the store . The concern I have is that they have a history of mislabeling games. I.E I've bought games with label Mario Party and the actual game is Cooking Mama. So I am afraid in this case my Need for Speed Undercover is not really US region although the label reads so. Can anyone confirm that Need for Speed Undercover only contains a game patch update?

Uh, ignoring the fact that you continue to buy mislabeled games from a disreputable distributor, WHY ARE YOU PAYING MONEY FOR BACKUP GAMES!?

Its not only blatant piracy but also stupid. If you're going to steal games then at least don't support people who make money off game piracy.

Anyway, you can rip the game back to an iso using imgburn on read mode (no special drive required if you're working from a backup) and open it with brickblocker. That should display both the game title and region information.

I know penguin, that was the first and only time I bought games from them. They were 5 bucks CAN each so I bought a bunch. I didn't know about downloading them before until I had this firmware problem and did some research.

I guess ripping the game back to iso and block the firmware is the safest way. Thanks guys, my BT will be even more busy from now on.
