Ok so I just picked up a used PSP system for the sole purpose of remote play with my PS3. So I get home and attempt to connect ( I have done this with my friends PSP before) My ps3 says that my PSP needs a softare update to proceed. No sweat, I go on the psp and to update and it downloads the latest update to my memory stick v5.03, now when I go to install it, it says "the game cannot be started (DADADADA)" I look at my system software and it says I have 3.10 OE-A which i have discovered is a custom dark alex firmware. My PS3 has version 2.60, i have IC1003 telling me I think I have the TA-082 motherboard. I dont care about downloading games and emulators I just wanna find a way to update to the current version and be on my merry way with remote play without bricking my psp even though I have no idea what that means but doesnt sound good please help me thank you

Since you already have custom firmware, you should try updating to the latest custom firmware from Dark Alex (5.00 M33)

Try Hellcats Recovery Flasher

It will get you to 5.00 M33

Thank you so much, so check this out, I THOUGHT remote play was exactly that I could transfer the whole screen and play my PS3 games through my PSP. How wrong was I, so I updated to 3.52 m33, then m33-4 then to 3.71m33, try remote play and still says needs update, however this time I try a regular update to official software and viola!!! 5.03 sony software. That is when I figured out that remote play is pretty much useless to me as I wanted to play my ps3 while the wife was watching some boring reality show lol. So now I want back in the m33 how do I go from 5.03 to the 5.00m33 Thank you so much for all the help

Now that you are back on official firmware, it gets a little more complicated...

To get back to Custom firmware from 5.03 you need what is called a pandora battery and magic memory stick. the battery puts the PSP into service mode, and the memory stick holds all the files need to flash the firmware...

Try this guide HERE

It shows how to make the magic memory stick and the options you have for buying or creating a pandora battery.

Good Luck!

256Mb isn't going to be big enough... 512Mb is the minimum.

I recommend a 1GB or 2GB, because if you want to take full advantage of all the features and abilities custom firmware has to offer, you will want more space.

You should be able to pick up a 2GB memory stick from RadioShack for about $15.

Glad I could help... I remember how confusing and frustrating it was when i first got into the custom firmware scene. :P

magic memory stick don't require that much space, the biggest file is the firmware and if you make a stick with just one custom firmware then a 64 or 128MB will work just fine.

as for games and movies a 2GB barely covers it saying the biggest games are 1.5GB so i recommend 4 or 8GB and they are cheaper online though you run the risk of getting fake memory stick that can but not always cause problems as i have a few fake sticks that have worked fine for me.

ShaggyZE is right.

I was thinking of a different installer that requires a 512Mb stick. (Ultimate Pandora Memory Stick Installer) it gives you a lot more options...

A 256Mb will work.

Thanks for pointing that out Shaggy

ah man you guys are gonna hate me when this is all done. So I started going through the process and i created the magic memory stick thing. But now as I read more carfully it looks like I can only create a pandora battery with either 1.5 firmware or CFW is this true? or can I still use the pandora creator with the official firmware? thanks again guys you rock!!!!!!!!!!

Dont know how to hard mod but its sounds like your just removing one of the 3 pins on the batt correct? If so why not just cover the pin with a piece of elec tape or something to trick the psp

its different depending on what battery you have but yea its just a matter of cutting a pin and then you can inject IPL onto you memory sticks with programs like psp pandora deluxe so that the battery works like normal so try and find a video on youtube for making a pandora battery that is like yours

Thanks ShaggyZE. This kinda sucks as my computer somehow burnt the sound card out about a month ago (laptop built into mother board) I havent went and got an external one yet so I watched a few videos on it no sound and went to try it. Well lets just say I should and will be buying not only the tool battery but another regular battery as well lol. I am actually really good at dismanteling things but When cutting around the battery casing I went a little too deep and she started getting hot an I had to blow out a couple mini flames I seen in there I had a razor blade and cut right into the lithiuom battery!!!!! I guess I shouldnt be so impatient huh? That will teach me oh well all in good time thanks again for everyones help
