Hello
So i'v been googling and googlig, and I cant find what I exactly want. How can I find out if my motherboard Sata ports can mod my drive. Its a hitachi from my xbox 360 elite. Is it harder to mod through your motherboard? I heard it was more messy... but I dont see how it could be so much different then using a sata card.
Also, I looked up lists and lists of different sata cards, but I dont normally buy online, so what sata card would be the best to buy and where, would like to buy from a trusted source. I was checking out newegg, and it looked like the best place to get one.
Thanks
Rob

The Hitachi's can be hard to mod, but they've updated all these new programs, that you shouldn't have many problems anymore. If your motherboard does have SATA ports, you will want them to have the nForce Chipset.
A way to check that is:
Go to Start-->Right Click 'My Computer'-->Select Properties-->Click Device Manager-->Click the '+' next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
Once you get there, if it says nForce in there, then you most likely can just use those, and not have to buy a VIA card.
I've flashed Hitachi's in the past, back with just the xtreme firmwares, and it was difficult, but now it's a lot easier!

See when I had to get it into Mode B, you could do the 2 pin trick, or buy a Connectivity Kit.
I have one of the Connectivity Kits, and it comes in handy when modding the drives. Don't have to use the 360 power at all.

Ya i did one using the mode-b.bat that was not too bad but the jungleflash way is dumb-foundingly easy after having done it another way

Hey DavGerm4, i went into device manager, and i dont have that option... Not sure why i don't, my HDD and dvd rom is hooked up under Sata, shouldn't I have this option? Also it says Rom ver. 0079FL, does that mean I have to get the guide for a hitachi 79?

Ya you will need the tutorial for the Hitachi 79 model. Since you don't have that option (I'm not on my PC atm), just look through all the options in Device Manager, and see if there is nForce anywhere.

Go to this link at Newegg. That is the card you will want to get to flash a 360! It's the VIA 6421 Chipset.

You can get those, but not ones that will work for flashing a 360. To flash a 360 it needs to be the VIA 6421 Chipset. So I guess if they have a VIA 6421 that will fit in an Express Slot, then maybe it would work, but I've never seen any like that.

i recall the thread your talking about, but i think it was regarding flashing either a sammy or benq, not a hitachi, but i dont see why it wouldnt work. but i do remember the people in the thread stating that the pcmcia card worked for them.
