I was using Maximum Firmware toolbox 4.8 to update my firmware on my hitachi v 47 drive and it froze in the middle. DVD tray wont open and when i turn it on on the tv i get an error message. I followed instructions on saving the original.bin but my computer wont recognize the xbox drive anymore. is it bricked? is there any way to fix this without a new drive?

I get a single red light in the bottom corner as well as E64 error.
I also have a second xbox 360 I could use if any of this info helps.

Yes, your drive is bricked. You have a couple options, have someone desolder the TSOP chip and reflash it with an external programmer. Or, take your dvd-key and flash it to another XBOX dvd drive. You also could buy a Hitachi 47 PCB board, and then flash your key to that new PCB board.

thanks for the help. I was afraid that might be the answer. I have a samsung backup drive. I have read that I must apply the same key to it for it to work in my xbox but do I also have to spoof the firmware to the same hitachi model? Does this prevent me from being able to rip my games using the samsung drive?

You are correct on flashing your key to the Samsung. You will need to spoof the Samsung firmware as a Hitachi 47. If you wait til iXtreme 1.6, the firmware will have 0800 built into it. Only problem is you would have to take apart your 360 each time you want to copy your games.

I would get a BenQ drive and flash your key to that. BenQ's read backup games nice and are smooth. But that is just my opinion.

I have a similar problem.. My drive is Hitachi 47d..
I was using the ixteme 1.4 and decided to flash it to 1.51 today but after reflashing to original key.. the E64 message occurs. Now my comp does not recognise the dvd rom.

I used the dos program to restore and I also used the team executer programming kit..

If you can still get your drive in modeB and recognized in Windows, try this.

Get ixtreme 1.4 for hitachi's and use the restore.bat file inside it to restore your drive. It that works, then flash it with jungle flasher

I ended up buying a samsung m28. I just put it in and it works in the xbox 360 but when i connect it to the computer I cant get windows to recognize it like I did for the hitachi. I was wondering how to do that because I have to spoof it to be like the hitachi.
