Ok....... I have to re-flash my brothers modchip, it is acting goofy. What should I do?

I have an external programmer that has like a connection for a computer (like where the monitor cord would go in) and then there is a place for what looks like a 9 volt battery? What do I do?

Then after that just re-install the evolution x dash and start all over?

Also...his saved games and stuff will be lost, correct? Or if I FTP in, can I save his saved games on my computer and later send them back? Where do the saved games save on the hard drive?
