Question about using an external hard drive to play movies on Xbox360.

Hello. I have just purchased an Xbox 360 and already have a external WD 1TB HD that I store my movies and tv shows on. I have connected it to the 360 and it plays and is very convienent. I finally got an xbox live account and went on and was looking through their collection and they have dvd covers and summaries of the movie where as I just have the name of the movie to click on.

Is it possible to get covers and write bits about the movie to make it look better and easier to locate the movies you want to watch?

I think Media Center does it but it doesn't bother me. I have the same setup as you with the 1TB drive. I just hate media center.

You can include a cover easy.
just place the cover in the same directory as the movie / tv program.
make sure u name the picture the same as the movie / tv program, for example:

C:/My Videos/The Matrix.avi <-- Movie
C:/My Videos/The Matrix.jpg <-- The Picture

Im not sure if u can add any details, but try making a txt file and naming it the same as the file. That may or may not work. Worth a try tho.

Mainly WMV and AVI files.

there is a converter somewhere on this forum that will allow u to stream and convert videos on the fly. search for it :)

Thank you very much for your suggestion. I tried two movies and one the picture worked and one it didnt. The jpeg that didnt was 160x220 and the one that did was 386x500 so maybe it is just a rez and size issue.

However, creating a txt file didnt seem to work. If there are any other suggestions im all ears. Thanks again!
