As of right now I am using Nero 6 to burn most of my backups with 100% success, however when I tried to play one of them on a not-so-old Samsung player I ran into some problems. The DVD just keeps skipping and won't play right like it does on my Playstation. My question is whether there is another program i can be using to burn that will increase compatibility with older players or is this just a problem I will just have to live with. Also when I use DVD Shrink to backup the movies the IFO files are changed into DVD navigation files. These files won't work with Clone DVD 2.2 but work fine with Nero. I am using the default settings, so is there a setting to change this or again will I just have to live with it? Any input on this matter sould be greatly appreeciated. Thank You.
Hi quaz, Compatibility problems are usually from the media used, not the burning programs. Most older players only play -R media. You didn't say anything about your burner or media you used. You can check player/media compatibility at this site. www.dvdrhelp.com This could also be the problem with your PS.
It's actually suprising that it works fine on the PS and that you have problems with it on the Samsung, usually it's the other way around. Burning in Nero should not affect the compatibility. Media and format are causes of most compatibility issues. With my experience, I have had much success with using DVD-R as the format and burning at a slower speed (1X or 2X) with both PioData and Ritek Ridata G04. You may want to do what you are doing and just try to drop the burning speed to see if that changes anything. Hope this helps.
Well, just to clarify, I am using a Sony drx-510ul firmware 1.0f with memorex 4x media. I also burn onto ritek g04 but I have yet to try any of the riteks on the samsung player. But just in addition the ritek dvds seem to actually be higher quality than the memorex ones. I have burned all of them at 4x but out of 25 memorexes I have had 3 coasters and out of the almost 70 riteks I have not had any (knock on wood). So I will try the riteks and post with my results. There had been a lot of talk lately about Memorex -R blank media. At the present time, this media is actually made by CMC-MAG company. They do not produce quality media. These Memorex blanks seem to be causing problems for many on this forum. Just thought I would pass that along. Ritek is a excellent choice.
The Riteks worked!!! Again these discs prove that they are superior to the Memorexes (not to mention at half the price). I am very satisfied with these discs. I have burned all of them at 4x and tried them on many different players and not had a problem yet. I had heard that there was a compatability problem with Sony burners so at first I was hesitant to buy one, but I couldn't be more satisfied with the outcome. In addition I also heard that Nero 6 wasn't that good but again it hasn't given me the slightest problem, except for with a couple of the Memorex discs, but I'm going to go ahead and blame that on the discs themselves. I plan on burning many more discs like this so I will definately let ya'll know if I run into anymore snags. Thank you for all the help!
