I bought a USB Gecko. I've read the simple walkthroughs for ripping a Wii disc. I've been successful ripping a game. I get an .ISO file of the correct size.
The .ISO burns fine and the disc verifies. Put the burned disc into the Wii and I get the Wii black screen of death. "An error has occurred ... blah blah no game for you."
I've tried under Win XP and Vista. Under Vista I seem to get fewer Resending Packet messages, but I still get hundreds.
Anyone having luck with the USB Gecko?
Thanks,
-Mike

If you are refering to error 002 then there is an easy fix.
1.Download Wiitools: Wiitools link
2.Extract files and click on wiitools icon
3.Click on "Wii Scrubber" (second icon from the top left)
4.Click "Load ISO" and find your ISO
5.Click partition 0 or the first partition from the top
6. locate the "main.dol" file and right click
7.Click extract and extract to your desktop
8.Exit out of wii scrubber
9. Click on "Generic patcher" (second page bottom left corner)
10. Click open and locate the "main.dol" file you extracted
11. Click "search" for 001 fix and if it reads "error 001 fix protection found" click "Remove 001"
12. Do same for error 002
13. Make sure you click save before you exit
14. Load wii scrubber again
15. Navigate to the same "main.dol" file you extracted earlier and right click
16.Click replace and locate the main.dol file on your desktop
17. Click ok and your done...burn as normal
Wiitools is a set of very useful tools for your iso's you can right click on each icon to get a description of each program.

I did what you said. I downloaded WiiTools. I couldn't run the WiiTools application. Kept getting an error, but I was able to launch WiiScrubber and GenericWiiPatcher.
I extracted the main.dol and ran the patcher on it. It didn't find any 001 or 002 errors with my main.dol.
If It didn't find anything to change I figured this burn would fail as well. Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Mike

Well the error seems odd to me but yes you can launch every program form its designated folder. I believe there is another main.dol file you can check. Try this:
Open wii scrubber
load your iso
open partition 1
Look for the main.dol file
It should be second from the bottom
Follow the above guide from step 6

I looked at it again in WiiScrubber.
This is what I see in the Status window:
Partition:0 - UPDATE (0) (Sample Game)
Partition:1 - DATA (0) (BAD)
Bad probably means, bad... I can't open partition 1, no plus sign.
So my original grabs from the disc were bad, I assume. Like I said I did get lots of 'Resending Packet' messages. But all the guides say this is normal. Maybe I should try to rip a disc others have been successful with and see what I get. Maybe WiiPlay?

Mike,
It could be a hardware issue (eg. usb gecko device) if your experiencing a bad partition error or it could just be a bad rip. Try multiple games if you can. Also, what brand disks are you using to burn?

I'm using Taiyo Yuden DVDs. Where I work we duplicate DVDs. We've used this brand and Maxell for a long time. All the d/l games I have were burned using this media. I haven't had trouble with it.
I'll try another rip. Might take a few days to get to it. Work, work, work....
Thanks for sticking with me. I appreciate it.

It's no problem at all.
I haven't seen a bad partition error in a while so I'am pretty curious as to how it will turn out. Just stick with it thats how I always find the solution. I was a little confused about what error you were recieving at the beginning we didn't have to go through the whole wii scrubber thing. Just so you know, if you are getting the "eject your disk and read the manual" error it usually means a) bad media or b) bad burn. If you get the error 001 or 002 there are some pretty easy work arounds for it the way I showed you is just one of them.

I wish I was getting some kind of error on the rip. It usually goes fine and take about 2 hours as expected. Only thing I get is a pile of Resending Packet messages which are to be expected I guess.
No smoking gun to be found.
Will try WiiPlay and see what happens....

I haven't asked you yet. What system menu are you on and is your wii chipped? How are you booting your games? Via the gamecube method?

I haven't forgotten about this. I've just been busy with work and family stuff. I'm going to try a rip this weekend. To answer your question, I have a Wii with a D2CKey, installed with a WiiClip. It's worked fine with other backups. I'm using the same computer to rip and burn as I did to burn other backups successfully. Same media, etc...
I'll let you know what happens.

Boy time flies. I have done several things since my last post. I did successfully rip WiiPlay using the USB Gecko. I had very few resent packets. Maybe a dozen or more. I was able with ImgBurn to burn a backup. It plays as well as the original.
So I went out and rented CookIng Mama. I've tried ripping it over the past 2 days. Each time I try I get hundreds if not thousands of resent packets. I have my doubts these rips will work so I cancel them after a couple of hours. I had the same results while trying to rip Wii Playground (EA).
Any ideas, if you're still there?

I tried the Cooking Mama rip again last night. The rip finished with zillions of resent packets. I'll check it with WiiScrubber
