I'm planning on get a ps3 sometime in the near future and I was wondering for just a somewhat small bedroom setup would it be better (and/or cheaper) using a 22" LCD PC monitor with an hdmi input or should i go for a 22" LCD 720p TV (since 1080p isn't even noticeable at screens 50" or lower from what I herd) it seems that i can get a decent, slightly larger monitor for about the same price i could get on a 22" 720phdtv. I also would be running linux on the ps3, so would it support resolutions higher then 1080p on an LCD monitor???
Well, from what I can tell, most widescreen PC monitors nowadays support resolutions up to 1080p (even if some of them are only listed as having a max of 1440x900 or 1680x1050).
Even at just 22", if all you're going to use your monitor for is playing games, then you'll be better off with the monitor. Especially if you're stuck between a 22" TV and a 22" monitor.
So yeah, I'd definitely go for a monitor. It's at least a hundred dollars cheaper than a similar-sized TV.
full 1080p, hdmi port, hdcp support so would it work just by plugging in directly via hdmi cord or do I have to do something special since its a monitor?? its a really nice monitor for 200 bucks i think so though, 40k:1 contrast ratio, 5ms response time, 23", and only 200 bucks. It doesnt have built in speakers but I have logitech gaming surround sound speakers
No, he's talking about the audio output. The HDMI is capable of outputting both video and audio, but since that monitor doesn't have any speakers (and since the PS3 only has one HDMI port), you'll have to output to the speakers using an optical cable or the composite cables.
So:
Video output to monitor = HDMI
Audio output to speakers = Optical/composite

A few of them will downsize a 1080presolution to fit the resolution of the screen but not many. And besides that you wouldn't notice a whole lot of difference at 22" besides shrinking the text further making it harder to read.
But in quality terms the monitor's blow the TV's quality away. Compare the contrast ratio's, refresh time, and brightness; the monitor usually beats the tv outright.
well the monitor i plan on getting is exactly 1080p max resolution (1920x1080) so there won't be any down sizing, i made sure to look for this when I was looking through monitors. But yea i compared alot of HDTVs to Monitors and specs wise the monitors were usually better but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't making any mistakes haha. Thanks alot though for the help
