I'm trying to flash my first 360 (new LiteOn) and am having trouble with the Via card. I plug the card in and when I restart it detects the new hardware and goes into the installation wizard. I select the "have disk" option and navigate to the Portio32.inf file, but it says "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware". I read on tutorials to delete the via drivers before installing the portio32 drivers. Does this mean that I should first install the Via card drivers, then just delete the viamraid.sys file specified in the tutorials? Or do I need to connect the Xbox drive up to the card then install the Portio32 driver?

Ok guys, you don't install portio32.sys as the via driver. You ignore the VIA installation and install the portio32 driver with the included setup program. You can install it manually as well, as instructions come wth the downloadable package.

If you want to install via drivers, go to www.viaarena.com.

Note, if you do install the via drivers, it will lock up on erasing and flashing a lite-on while within jungle flasher. It's best to use DOSFLASH 1.7 to erase and write the Lite-On.

I should have posted how I ended up getting this to work so others like yourself who have the same issue could see how to do it. PS2Menace summed it all up. If you need more details let me know.

I am having the same results and no luck with this either. Any help you could provide would be great. Heres my story so far as posted in another forum:

Same problem here. I wonder if its a new issue with SP3. On bootup Windows detects the new hardware and gives me the option to install drivers for it. But once I try to give it the porti/o32 driver I get the "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware." error and then it just goes back to letting me try and pick another driver. Also I dont have the viaraid.sys file on my computer at all, so no issues with windows auto assigning that driver.

Anyway have any idea why we can manually assign this driver to the card?

Okay, so I just pulled the HDD out of my computer, replaced it with a spare and installed XP SP2 on it and tried to get the portio32.inf driver assigned to the card again with the same error... Im starting to think its an issue with this Sata controller card. I bought it from a link I found in I cant remember which xbox forum through a website called TekGems. People were saying they were using this card to flash xbox drives.

iXtreme says that you can use just about any modern sata controller built in a motherboard, so now Im going to try that route. Ill post back with what happens.

Now I just tried to assign the portio32.inf driver to one of the two sata controllers on the motherboard and got the same error message. Something is wrong with the .inf file... I went and downloaded the original (possibly newer version) from the makers Winford Engineering, and again just got the same results...

I have tried doing this on three computers now (another that I didnt mention above)... what the heck is the problem here?

To add more to this I bought and tried a different SATA card (still the VT6421A chipset) one that lots of newegg reviewers said they had used to mod their xboxs and still get the same error. This is very dicouraging.

I have also tried getting the Key using iPrep in DOS but that fails too. I am starting to think Im just not meant to have a modded box...

Okay, just tried installing Windows 2000 on a totally different computer that I havent tried before and got the SAME error when trying to install the portio32 driver. Something is seriously wrong here. I cant see how any of you who say this works are actually getting it to work.

I've read hundreds of posts like yours. If you can't get the driver to install with the downloadable package from viaarena.com and you don't know how to manually install drivers through the device manager, then maybe it's not me who needs to read. Could it be YOU who needs to read and learn some basic computer knowledge?

Then again, maybe you have a DOA via card.

Well Im fairly sure I dont have a DOA card, as I mentioned in my first post I have two brand new VT6421A chipset cards, so Im doubting they both could be dead. Now, as far as getting the portio32.inf driver installed, does viaarena.com have an application that will force that driver to install or something? If so do you have a direct link to that because I couldnt seem to find anything like that on their site.

Your are doing the same thing I was doing. You are trying to install the Portio32 driver for the VIA card. When you restart the computer and Windows detects the new hardware and starts the add new hardware wizard, click cancel. Do not run the wizard and try installing portio32 as the driver. The card will not need any drivers. Everytime you restart, cancel the wizard. You need to install the portio32 driver by itself, not as a driver for the VIA card. Let me know if you are still having trouble.

Yea I figured that out and forgot to post back! That was the problem. I kept trying to assign the driver to the controller card. Once I canceled that and just installed the driver everything went smoothly. Thanks everyone for your help!

You simply DONT. Just leave windows with no driver installed for the sata card and install the portio32 driver to essentially nothing. Just add a new device in windows and install it.

wow, why would you install the drivers for the VIA card, to have to uninstall them to flash your liteon?

Just install it, click cancel when your computer starts up saying it detected new hardware.

Then manually go in and add the portio.inf file through device manager (i did that, versus running the executable that came with jungleflasher).

Then when you use jungleflasher, use portio versus winapi.
