Hi, Im trying to flash my Hitachi 78FK drive. I don't have any sata ports on my motherboard so I bought a Sata Card VT6421A
(SY-VIA-150) non raid. I installed the card, read the textbook guide and watched the tutorial video from 360 Mods. I tried both Slax disks 2.0 and 2.1 and I keep getting "port is slow to respond, please be patient" and then it just goes to the login screen. I've tried starting the 360 power at different times but no response. So I decided to try Podger's Mode B and Jungle Flasher, installed everything instructed but everytime I turn on the power to my 360 it freezes the computer until I turn the 360 power off. I tried uninstalling the VIA driver and trying Jungle flasher again, the 360 doesn't freeze the computer but jungle flasher says,"no drive detected". I've checked my bios but I dont see any thing dealing with Raid. I tried installing card to all 4 of my ports but it doesn't change anything. I don't have access to another computer to try so I don't know what to do. Thanks in advance.

Here's a little more info on my PC:
Windows XP SP2
Dell Bios Ver. 0AASNP05
VIA Drivers tried 5.3, 5.5, 5.7and 5.8 all reading as
VIA Raid Controller 3249 in Device Manager under SCSI and RAID Controllers.

Do you have Podgers Tutorial...I dont have a 78 but I have a 79....It has to be a certain raid driver not the cd that came with it...It has a link on Podgers tutrial....Then use slax 2.1 . Have your xbox dvd drive hook to the pc sata have your av cable hooked to tv and power hooked to xbox...Power up xbox and pc with the slax 2.1 in it at the same time....It will start loading....Mine always says about halfway through loading disc...just eject your xbox dvd drive...Slax 2.1 will finish....Then power off just your PC..Power it back up and get the Slax CD out quick b4 it load again...Then when you see the windows xp screen keep opening and close the Xbox dvd Drive..Should take 2 click to open 2 to close...Do that a few time so your pc will reconize it.......Now you should be in B mode..Thats how the 79 is...Also if you know how to use Firmware Toolbox I found it to be easier to use for me because I dont know how to use Jungle Flasher...Hoped this helped ya some

I have read Podger's tutorial but it's been a while so I'll probably go back over it and see if I've missed something, thanks.

this step is not entirely true, just make sure av cable is plugged in to 360 does not have to be hooked into tv.

I've done some research and I think the problem is the driver of the VIA card. My Device Manager is reading my driver as VIA RAID Controller - 3249 instead of VIA VT6421 RAID Controller. I tried reinstalling the driver but it doesn't change anything. I did a google search and found other people having the same problem but no solutions. Does anybody have any ideas?

Well, I finally got into Mode B by installing the VIA Driver 5.30C and using Podger's Mode B method. The next issue is my computer freezing every time I plug the SATA Cable in the computer. Even when I restart the computer and press the eject button while loading it still freezes. It only unfreezes when I take the SATA Cable out. Uninstalling the driver may work but I haven't had much luck with that, I could be doing it wrong.

FF_3D1: I have the exact same pci card as you and am noticing the exact same problem with the hitachi 78k on my system.
I can put it into mode b with my on board sata (raid only) and then when I try to restart and swap the SATA to the SY-VIA-150 it just freezes for about 10 seconds, gives me about 3 seconds of my system back and then freezes again until I power off the drive.
I cannot use the slax disc to put it into mode b when connected to the SY-VIA-150 at all, port not responding, never detects it.

Did you figure anything out?
I have an Acer M5620 with ICH8 on board and not way to turn raid off on mother board, with a SY-VIA-150 PCI card.
