Thread title changed as "Can it read?" wasn't meaningful enough.

Maybe I should try it? The reason for my asking is that my backup failed twice to write onto a DVD+R DL and it's kinda wasted buying multiple discs.

hold on one sec.... ive just re-read what you wrote! you will only be able play the games if your xbox has had new firmware put in it. It wont play them as standard.

What I'd like to know is what brand of DVD+R DL you did use.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I used Imation DVD+R DL. I've burned 3 games so far however for the last 2 i had to buy 2 discs each due to fail to write to discs. I don't think is the discs and I just need to know whether Xbox 360 can read DVD+RW DL.

Actually, using Imation discs may very well be your problem. Imation is generally considered junk media. You can jump over to the dvdr forum and ask about them.

And the other problem you're going to have is you can't buy rewritable dual layer dvds. They've never been produced and released to the public.
In 2007 JVC announced that they had planned on releasing rewritable -r dual layers, but never did. Back then many believed that was because of the upcoming release of rewritbale blu ray discs.
A lot of people are being confused with the logo RW DvD+R DL, The logo represents that the medium is part of the DvD+RW Allinance... it's not a rewritable dual layer disk.

Also, when have you last updated the firmware for your burner? You may want to check for new firmware.

I've been desperately waiting for these disks. I even sent JVC a nasty email thanking them for the marketing announcement but no product.

I'm sure there would be a decent market for this (not including xbox 360 owners), and can easily take over the 4.x GB market. I wonder why they dropped the ball.
I guess blu-ray is the future... so sad!!!!

I'd definitely like to see a pic or product number. I went to Memorex's web site, but didn't see anything under "DVD Rewritable" products.
Google showed nothing as well.
