Confused on flashing hitachi drive.

Hey im new to flashing xbox 360's but have been looking around for diff ways to do it and whats needed.Im looking to flash a hitachi v47 with ixtreme 1.51 my questions are:
1.Do i need to have a sata pci card or connectivity kit? or can i unplug a sata port already in use on the computer and use that to hook up the dvd drive?
2.Ive seen ppl booting to the bios and setting it to mode b in command and flashing the firmware with a usb drive. is it easier then the jungleflash way and would that be necessary since i would be unplugging the hdd from the computer and hooking that sata cord into the xbox dvd to flash that way.

1) I have used the suggest Via Sata card to do my V46, not sure about the connectivity kit though.

2) All depends, sometime people have problems setting to mode b with Jungle Flasher, I just needed to switch from WinAPI to PortIO and back again and also open my Xbox drive when entering Mode B. I have also used SLAX with a previous firmware update (still has to open drive). Id say try Jungle Flasher first as its the easiest to set up and work with with, if that fails used SLAX

thanks the port io thing was freezing my comp and i couldnt put it in mode b using JF so i used slax and then JF to flash it using win api. it was easy but now i need to go out and buy som dvd dl discs to burn to.
