can't seem to complete "writing" process

i am having problems with my dvd writer, trying to get it to backup movies. i tried the suggestion posted by "Scubapete" about using shrink along with nero 6. i followed your instructions to the letter. i could not get the "writing" process to work. it reads and logs it fine, but "errors" at about 9%.

i have a brand new 8x hp 400i dvd writer (+ media only)
windows xp
hp pavalion 3.0 gighrtz
50x hp dvd rom
1.5 gig ram
Dual 120 gig hd's (7200 rpm)

when i got my dvd writer a month ago, i intially bought dvd x-copy platinum. For a few days i was able to get it to work, then all of the sudden it did not want to work either. i have lost 25 blanks....i am willing to try any and all suggestions. My dvd writer seems to be fuctioning properly...i am sure it is some kind of software issue...can someone help?

i was impressed with the knowledge shown by members after reading a lot of the postings, and thought posting my problem might help

HEY GUYS...IT'S ME AGAIN....I AM GETTING THE MOVIES TO BACK UP TO HARD DRIVE O.K. USING SHRINK VERS. 3.1.....BUT WHEN I WANT TO BURN THE BACKUP OFF THE HARD RIVE WITH INTERVIDEO DVD COPY, IT SAYS IT HAS DONE THE WHOLE MOVIE, BUT WHEN YOU PLAY IT, IT SSEEMS QUIT/LOCKUP 20 MINUTES INTO THE MOVIE....ALMOST LIKE IT IS ALL U REALLY GOT......WHEN I TRY TO USE DVD X COPY TO BURN IT OFF THE HARD DRIVE, IT WON'T EVEN FINISH THE BURN PROCESS.....ANY IDEA WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST TO BURN THE MOVIE AFTER IS HAS BEEN BACKED UP TO YOUR HARD DRIVE BY SHRINK 3.1?
