just an fyi i bought a replacement drive off of ebay from thumb monkey and it was a bad drive, even though it was stated as "working like new" now i guess i will have to wait and see if they will replace it.

Damn that's garbage homesick, is the drive giving you the open tray error when you have a game in?? I'll have to avoid this guy at all costs, sorry it things didn't work out for you.. You shouldn't have a problem getting your money back through paypal if that's what you used..

Prior to getting myself banned from ebay, Thumb Monkey was one of my regular suppliers for used xbox stuff. Homie.. the items I got from them all included a letter stating how much they strive for 5 stars and if there is anything they can do to make a transaction positive then don't hesitate to give them a call. They also used to send me coupons for 5, 10, evn %20 off on next purchase.
Have you tried to contact them???????/

UPDATE! I just called them like the user said above so i could actually speak to someone. They were VERY nice, told me to keep the broken drive they didn't want it back, they were very sorry and they will send me another free drive tomorow free of charge! I'll let you know how it turns out! lol and bhetrick forgot how much of a pain it was to do a 79... geesh....

I haven't had a chance to try a 79 with Jungle Flasher yet. How did you try it? Or didn't you even get a chance because of the drive?

i got all the way until i had to unlock it i got it unlocked but when i went to dump raw fw in FW toolbox 4.8 it would not read the dvd.

I've done 2 79's with JF and it works like a charm.

yea i went to go install the drive today, and figured i would put a cd in it first before i waste my time and see what it does. and guess what? the drive wont even eject! this is really getting annoying.

I got a drive once that wouldn't eject. I manually ejected it and it was the gear spindle had risen too much. I pushed it down and it worked flawlessly. I figured it happened during shipping. Try that and report back.

i did, i actually took both of the junk drives apart and used the good parts from both to make a working drive. it worked well at first, but i still had some minor grinding going on. anyway i proceded to flash it, (i had to insert the movie about 5 times to get it to finally spin up and read) long story short my pc froze when i was flashing. i didnt even check to see if it bricked it, i threw it in the trash. I spent roughly 3 hours on it today. I am just going to have a member on here do it for me. i am sick of messing with it. looks like i will be giving them negative feedback after all.

Dude that sucks. I got a replacement benq from a shop up in Canada and it works perfectly. If you're still up for doing the job yourself I can find the link for you. And who is doing the drive swap for you?

that is one of da reasons i never shop at ebay anymore. I kept trying with them. but once i bought a graphics card it specifically said "Brand new in box" and had a pic of it, it was about $169.00 at the time pretty cheap for 250mb of video memory, i got it opened in a make shift box with what i believed was a manual for a pc lol.

so just to clarify i looked at the ebay auction site and it says that the item is NEW i thought it just said working. lol these drives are clearly not new, the first one that actually opened, had scratches all over the tray. so i am going to call them this morning and as for another one. Bhetrick is the one that is going to do it for me. He has already told me he would do it for free. But hats off to everyone that gave me for the most part free offers to help out. Thats swhat this community is about! Well looks like I will be staying away from thumb monkey!

Well i got ahold of them this morning, and again they were very, very appologetic and offered to send me another free drive. I accepted (obviously) and they said maybe they were pulling from the wrong box or something. I explained that the one drive had scratches all over the tray and he said he would make sure they inspected the drive before they sent this one out. I am not going to use this drive, as i said i have bhetrick doing one for me. but i think this will be the last and final update.
