Does anyone have one of these motherboards and have tried to use the e-sata port to flash a 360 DVD drive?
Just wondering if the via 6421 card is necessary before venturing into buying or making the equipment to flash with.

Most likely, that is the route I will take. I am also curious as to why the via 6421 and not anything else? I know it has been proven countless times to have worked but everything has to start somewhere I guess.

Why don't you try it with your mainboard? You can't damage the console, either the flash works or it doesn't.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

That was my next question. If it would damage anything on the DVD Drive if I did try it. Thanks.

The only thing that can happen is that your drive doesn't get recognized by your PC.
Also if you manage to get a bad flash, just flash it again, I have once accidentally flashed the drive with the iXtreme 1.4 file that came with the package, the one without a key. Reflashed, didn't do any harm.

I tried it on my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and would get a blue screen of death every time I powered on the Xbox dvd drive. I'm now waiting on the VIA card I ordered.

Hey Bill. Did you use one of the internal SATA connectors or the e-SATA in the back? Shouldn't make a difference though, should it?

Internal. Don't have a esata to sata adapter so I haven't tried it out.
