Yes it will work as long as you have custom firmware or 1.50 on the psp.

To install from xmb just act like you are playing a game and you should find the update in that directory.

Not much really. If you have everything where you want it and aren't planning on buying 4.01+ games you should be fine where you're at. Also some m33 firmwares apparently spoof the firmware version to allow games to run when they really shouldn't, so it might not be needed at all.

OK-I have CFW 3.71 M33-2. I downloaded the 2 files above. The 500.PBP and the EBOOT.PBP are both in my UPDATE folder on the PSP. When I go to the Mem-stix and try to update to 5.00 M33-4 it says "unpacking...done. Please wait" It goes to the next screen "verifying 500.PBP...incorrect file"
Then reboots and it still says my system is 3.71.
I'm sure I'm just doing something wrong with a simple explanation.
Any help?

EDIT: Got it! 500 wasn't staying/going into folder for some odd reason. Just kept trying and trying.

yeah, I saw you mentioned it in another thread, but I didn't answer because I couldn't remember ;)
I'm reinstalling now....

i know I had a problem before because one of the guides I read so I was to rename the eboot as 500.pbp.

DL 1st one---EBOOT.PBP in an UPDATE folder. (Extract update folder to your desktop making sure eboot is in there)
DL 2nd file----500.PBP and place in UPDATE(on your desktop) file next to EBOOT.PBP
Copy UPDATE folder to PSP in tis folder: PSP/GAME/UPDATE
It should copy into that folder asking if you'd like to replace the UPDATE folder that's already there-click 'YES TO ALL'

Now, if you'd like to verify. Go to your PSP drive, probably F:
Go to PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder. You should see an EBOOT.PBP and a 500.PBP. If so, disconnect USB mode. On PSP, scroll to the game icon, go to memory stick and select the update.

Let me know how you make out bud.

hey tommy,
still no success with the upgrade from 3.71 --> 5.00
i had copied the EBOOT.pbp & 500.pbp files into the UPDATE folder on PSP.
But when i tried to load the 5.00Update on my PSP, it still has the same error.
It did do the unpacking.. but when it comes to verifying 500.PBP, it says "Incorrect file"
Any idea whats wrong?

Anybody please help!! Had tried like a million times but it doesnt work at all.

OK, you have to bear with me, but we will figure this out. I'm sure the answer can be found on here somewhere, I just wish I could recall what I found to fix mine.
In your memory stick, do you have the MUX2.0 Updater?
You should click on that and select the update you want. Then go back to memory stick and click on that update. If you have done that, then I think that brings you to the point you are at now, correct?

May I suggest even starting over with the install altogether..?
Here's a link to a good TUT:

Are you sure the 500 file is actually going into the folder on the psp? That's the problem I was having-it wouldn't "stick" for some reason.
WAIT-take the 2 files out of the update folder and just put them on the Root of the mem stick. What happens now?

Yup.. i did re-install everything from the link that you given me.
Somehow the 500.PBP file wont go into the UPDATE folder.
So i manually copy the 500.PBP file into the update folder.
Still it shows the same error "Verifying 500.PBP... Incorrect File"

I also did what you suggested.
Taking the 2 files out of the update folder and put into the Root of mem stick.
But it just shows Corrupted files.

Think, i will go round and look for a better 500.PBP file.
Perhaps its corrupted?
Anyway, thanks a million for helping me out! :D

I don't mind trying to help. I only wish I could remember my correction!
There aren't 2 update folders on there and it's looking in the wrong one, is it?
OK, after I typed this something else occurred to me. I was DL'n some of the folders and opening with IZARC. When you extract, you have to make sure it's extracting everything. In other words, you may be seeing the file, but not actually getting what's in the file. Does that make sense?
